AMSTERDAM, April 23 (Reuters) – Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport will give airlines discounts on airport \u200ccharges to help to offset higher \u200ccosts caused by the conflict in the Middle East.<\/p>\n
Schiphol, \u200bone of the busiest and most expensive airports in Europe, will offer a temporary 10% discount on airport charges from April 27 to \u200cMarch 31, \u20602027. The discount will apply only to daytime flights.<\/p>\n
“The airport is taking \u2060this measure because airlines\u2019 costs have risen unexpectedly and sharply as a result of high \u200bkerosene prices,” \u200bSchiphol said in \u200ba statement.<\/p>\n
The airport \u200csaid the measure will have a “temporary negative” impact on Schiphol’s financial results, but it did not expect it to affect investments planned for the next 10 years.<\/p>\n
The U.S.-Israeli war \u200con Iran has disrupted global \u200benergy supplies and many \u200bEuropean airlines are \u200bpreparing for a challenging spring \u200cand summer period as the \u200bcost of \u200btickets is likely to jump. Many airlines have also cancelled flights to and \u200bfrom the \u200cregion, with some postponing resuming flights until \u200blater this year.<\/p>\n
