A house in an orchard designed by Milewicz Architekci

The House in the Orchard is an example of architecture that seeks to blend into the landscape. Designed by Milewicz Architekci, the project was realised in Warsaw on a plot surrounded by lush greenery and fruit trees, which from the outset became a natural guide for the functional layout. The building’s layout was adapted to the existing tree cover, ensuring that the building not only respects the existing conditions but actually capitalises on their charm. An orchard stretches out at the rear, and dense greenery begins just beyond the façade – it is this that defines the atmosphere of the entire development.

The structure was built in stages, in line with the client’s changing needs. Subsequent sections were added in such a way as to maintain the coherence of the form whilst not disrupting the house’s relationship with its surroundings. The timber structure, shingle roofing, stone and cladding boards form a combination of materials that acquire a noble patina over time. They undergo a controlled weathering process, allowing the building to mature alongside the landscape. As a result, it looks as though it has stood here for a long time, gradually becoming overgrown with greenery climbing up the facades.

Inside, the clients opted to expose the roof trusses. This feature emphasises the house’s natural character and allows soft light to flood the interior, spreading throughout the space and highlighting the texture of the wood. The sense of closeness to nature is ever-present here – thanks both to the materials and the views opening out onto the garden and orchard.

An integral part of the design is the spacious, covered terrace. This space has been designed with summer outdoor living in mind.

The relaxation area features, among other things, a hot tub, and right next to it is a summer kitchen connected to the house. The terrace opens onto a spacious garden, creating the perfect conditions for relaxation, gatherings with loved ones and long evenings spent al fresco. It is a space that naturally extends the living area and allows you to fully enjoy the charms of the surroundings.

The house is quite large. Its total floor area is 310 square metres. The materials used in its construction make it a prime example of conscious design. Here, every element – from the structure and materials to the relationship with the greenery – has been subordinated to the idea of harmony with the landscape. As a result, the building not only blends into its surroundings but becomes an integral part of them.

design: Milwicz Architekci

photography: Witalis Szumiło – Kulczycki / Ownstyle Films

Read also: Detached house | Wood | Modernism | Recommended | whiteMAD on Instagram

The House in the Orchard is an example of architecture that seeks to blend into the landscape.
