The court suspended the sentence, meaning he will not serve time in prison unless he commits a similar offense within the next five years.<\/p>\n<p>\u00dc\u00e7ar was among nine journalists <a href=\"https:\/\/stockholmcf.org\/turkish-authorities-detain-231-including-mayors-journalists-and-activists-in-nationwide-anti-terror-raids\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">detained<\/a> on November 26, 2024, along with 231 others as part of an investigation conducted by the Eski\u015fehir Chief Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office. He was accused of membership in the Kurdistan Workers\u2019 Party (PKK), which is designated as a terrorist organization by Turkey and its Western allies.<\/p>\n<p>\u00dc\u00e7ar was released from pretrial detention in July 2025 under judicial supervision.<\/p>\n<p>Turkey frequently brings terrorism-related charges against journalists and media workers, a practice that has affected reporters covering the Kurdish issue, a reference to the demand for equal rights by the country\u2019s Kurdish population and their struggle for recognition.<\/p>\n<p>Press freedom and human rights groups say such cases often rely on reporting activity, sources or published content rather than evidence of involvement in violence.<\/p>\n<p>According to Expression Interrupted, 27 journalists\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/expressioninterrupted.com\/tr\/liste.php\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">are<\/a>\u00a0currently behind bars in Turkey.
