{"id":6883,"date":"2026-02-09T19:10:40","date_gmt":"2026-02-09T19:10:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/6883\/"},"modified":"2026-02-09T19:10:40","modified_gmt":"2026-02-09T19:10:40","slug":"denmark-general-debate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/6883\/","title":{"rendered":"Denmark | General Debate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Speaking at the UN General Assembly on Monday, Danish Ambassador Christina Markus Lassen warned that the \u201ccollective inability\u201d of the international community to address crises in Gaza, Ukraine and Sudan, \u201cmust not prompt us to submit to a world ruled by brute force.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She stressed that the UN is \u201cas essential as ever,\u201d even as conflicts intensify, extreme poverty grows, and respect for international law and norms erodes.<\/p>\n<p>Since 1945, she noted, \u201cmore than a billion people have been lifted out of poverty,\u201d life expectancy and living standards have risen, and a global web of economic, political, and cultural ties has taken shape \u2013 proof, she said, of the UN\u2019s central role.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the world changes, so too must the UN,\u201d Ms. Lassen said, citing divisions in the Security Council.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToo often, the Council is divided, unable or unwilling to act\u2026The costs of inaction are felt across the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She called for expansion of the Security Council and reform of the international financial system to create \u201ca system that delivers for all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Peace, climate and reform<br \/>Turning to global conflicts, the Danish Ambassador described the humanitarian crisis in Gaza as \u201ca catastrophe of unbearable scale\u201d, stressing that the two-State solution \u201cremains the only solution to lasting peace.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Ukraine, she said the \u201chorrific and illegal war of choice\u201d could end tomorrow \u201cif only Russia wanted it to.\u201d She added the conflict\u2019s wide-ranging impact \u2013 from supply chain disruptions to global inflation \u2013 extend far beyond the battlefield.<\/p>\n<p>She also highlighted suffering in Sudan, Afghanistan, Haiti, and Myanmar, urging Member States to address humanitarian crises with urgency.<\/p>\n<p>Climate change, she warned, is a defining challenge: \u201cIn a world of competing crises, climate change and its impact remain real.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She noted that in 2024, more than 90 per cent of new power added to the world\u2019s grid came from renewable energy, but said further action is essential to reduce emissions and accelerate a just energy transition.<\/p>\n<p>Call for unity<br \/>Quoting Nelson Mandela \u2013 \u201cit always seems impossible until it is done\u201d \u2013 Ambassador Lassen urged nations to rekindle cooperation and solidarity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy working together, we got here,\u201d she said, echoing the General Assembly President\u2019s theme Better Together.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy working together, we can rise to today\u2019s challenges \u2013 for people and for the planet.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Speaking at the UN General Assembly on Monday, Danish Ambassador Christina Markus Lassen warned that the \u201ccollective inability\u201d&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":6884,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":"","_share_on_mastodon":"0"},"categories":[2],"tags":[27,26,5911,5912,5910],"class_list":["post-6883","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-denmark","tag-danmark","tag-denmark","tag-general-assembly","tag-general-debate","tag-united-nations"],"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/6883","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=6883"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/6883\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/6884"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=6883"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=6883"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=6883"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
