{"id":69284,"date":"2026-04-27T09:43:14","date_gmt":"2026-04-27T09:43:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/69284\/"},"modified":"2026-04-27T09:43:14","modified_gmt":"2026-04-27T09:43:14","slug":"kruunuvuori-bridge-reaches-completion-in-helsinki","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/69284\/","title":{"rendered":"Kruunuvuori Bridge reaches completion in Helsinki"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Kruunuvuori Bridge \u2013 the longest bridge in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/finland\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Finland<\/a>, and one of the world&#8217;s longest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/bridges\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">bridges<\/a> designed solely for public transport, pedestrians and cyclists \u2013 has opened in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/helsinki\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Helsinki<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Designed by engineering firm <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/wsp\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">WSP<\/a> and London studio <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/knight-architects\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Knight Architects<\/a>, the Kruunuvuori Bridge stretches 1,191 kilometres to link the waterside residential area of Kruunuvuorenranta with the nearby Nihti area via Korkeasaari island.<\/p>\n<p>Its winding steel and concrete structure features a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/cable-stayed-bridges\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">cable-stayed<\/a> section centred by a 135-metre-tall pylon that can be illuminated at night and double as a &#8220;new city landmark&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2320659 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/kruunuvuori-bridge-helsinki-wsp-news_dezeen_2364_col_0-852x1278.jpg\" alt=\"Kruunuvuori Bridge by WSP\" width=\"1576\" height=\"2364\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>The Kruunuvuori Bridge is 1191 kilometres long<\/p>\n<p>Two 260-metre-long spans stretch out on either side of the pylon, while the main bridge sits atop concrete abutments and is connected to approach bridges at each end.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsp.com\/en-gb\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">WSP<\/a>, the bridge was designed with a strong user focus to meet the specific needs of pedestrians, cyclists and public transport users.<\/p>\n<p>The car-free structure includes specific walkways and cycle lanes for users, and will offer a new tram connection from 2027.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2320661 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/kruunuvuori-bridge-helsinki-wsp-news_dezeen_2364_col_2-852x478.jpg\" alt=\"Kruunuvuori Bridge by WSP\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1327\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>Its cable-stayed section is centred by a 135-metre-tall pylon.
