She confirmed to the paper that she, her husband and their kids will continue living in Washington, D.C. until Joachim&#8217;s contract as defense industry attach\u00e9 expires in August 2027.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The most important thing for me and my family are the years that lie ahead of us. Right now, as you know, we are staying in the U.S. for another year and a half. Then the children can finish their schooling,&#8221; Marie told BILLED-BLADET in an interview at Amalienborg Palace in Copenhagen.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Henrik will finish high school, he will be 18, and then we will move back. Athena will start high school here in Denmark. I think Henrik will want to continue his studies right away, but we will have to see. He loves chemistry, physics and mathematics. But he has to work hard,&#8221; the royal mom continued.<\/p>\n<p>Princess Marie added that she was &#8220;looking forward to getting back to my work and my patronages. And getting back to Denmark,&#8221; and that her family was too.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are really looking forward to it. Joachim, 56, shares his two eldest sons, Count Nikolai, 26, and Count Felix, 23, with his first wife, Alexandra, Countess of Frederiksborg. They divorced in 2005, and Joachim married Marie in 2008. The couple went on to welcome two children, Henrik and Athena.<\/p>\n<p>In September 2022, Queen Margrethe announced plans to remove Joachim&#8217;s children&#8217;s prince and princess titles and &#8220;His\/Her Highness&#8221; stylings they had held since birth. The sudden decision to strip their styling was criticized, and Joachim <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/kensingtonpalace\/55079740293\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:said they felt blindsided;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">said they felt blindsided<\/a>.
