One of the world\u2019s largest renewable energy developers, \u00d8rsted, has announced it will cut around a quarter of its global workforce after a tumultuous year for the wind industry. According to The Guardian<\/a>, the Danish company\u2014half-owned by the state\u2014plans to reduce 2,000 of its 8,000 positions by 2027 as it refocuses on European and Asian markets.<\/p>\n

The move follows political turbulence in the United States, where the Trump administration abruptly ordered a halt to work on \u00d8rsted\u2019s nearly completed Revolution Wind project<\/a> off the coast of Rhode Island. The order caused the company\u2019s share price to crash to an all-time low and forced it to raise over $9 billion to stabilize operations. While a court has since allowed the project to resume, the disruption has shaken investor confidence and underscored the fragility of the clean energy transition under anti-renewable leadership.<\/p>\n

\u00d8rsted\u2019s CEO, Rasmus Errboe, described the cuts as a \u201cnecessary consequence\u201d of shifting priorities and a challenging global supply chain marked by inflation and rising costs. The company also recently canceled plans for one of the UK\u2019s largest offshore windfarms, citing economic pressures.<\/p>\n

Despite the short-term turbulence, the demand for renewable energy remains immense.
