COPENHAGEN, May 1 (Reuters) – Danish mining equipment and cement technology supplier FLSmidth said in a statement on Friday it \u200cwas investigating whether it had failed to comply with \u200csanctions after finding it had provided certain pre-contract tender materials to Russia.<\/p>\n
The company said \u200bit had found, as part of an ongoing internal probe, that it had provided materials to persons in Russia in connection with a limited number of potential projects in Kazakhstan.<\/p>\n
The company has ceased the \u200cpursuit of the tenders, \u2060it added.<\/p>\n
Asked about which sanctions FLSmidth might have breached, the company said in an emailed statement it \u2060had notified both the U.S. and the Danish authorities.<\/p>\n
“As the investigation is still ongoing, the information we can share at this time is \u200bcontained \u200bin the press release,” the company \u200bsaid.<\/p>\n
The U.S. and the \u200cEuropean Union imposed sweeping sanctions on Russia following its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.<\/p>\n
The tender activities, which took place before 2026, could constitute services within the scope of applicable sanctions regulations and conflict with internal procedures, FLSmidth said.<\/p>\n
The tender materials were provided at \u200cthe proposal stage without project contracts \u200bhaving been concluded, the company said, referring \u200bto preliminary findings from \u200bits investigation.<\/p>\n
FLSmidth said it was notifying relevant authorities, including \u200cthe U.S. Treasury’s Office of \u200bForeign Assets Control \u200band the Danish Business Authority, and that it will cooperate with authorities as its internal investigation progresses.<\/p>\n
The company said it \u200bwas in the process \u200cof reviewing and enhancing its compliance programme and risk \u200bmanagement measures as well as other mitigating actions.<\/p>\n
