It\u2019s been a year and a half since LEGO released its hugely popular, life-size black tuxedo cat set, which inspired some epic real cat vs. LEGO cat moments<\/a> on social media. Since then, cat-loving LEGO fans have been asking for more colors\u2014and finally, the brand has answered with an orange cat set, which will be released on March 1.<\/p>\n

But when fans saw the first images of the new set, some had\u2026 thoughts.<\/p>\n

\"Orange<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is not an orange cat LEGO!!!!!!\u201d sounded off one person on Reddit<\/a>. \u201cSeriously, as an orange cat owner I am massively disappointed!!!! See second picture for reference!!!!\u201d The second photo, which followed the product image in the post, featured a beautiful ginger tabby cat. Indeed, the two look quite different, and the criticism\u2014which appeared on the LEGO subreddit\u2014struck a chord. Comments, along with many more orange cat photos, rolled in.<\/p>\n

The main issue for many is that the new set is giving less orange cat and more brown cat. Or, to put it in more technical LEGO terms: \u201cI can’t tell if it\u2019s Lego Medium Nougat or Dark Orange. Looks more like Med Nougat but that wouldn\u2019t be very vibrant,\u201d someone posited.<\/p>\n

Another commenter posted a photo of their orange cat in the thread and joked, \u201cHow do I break it to him that he\u2019s not orange?\u201d<\/p>\n

Some people chimed in to cut LEGO some slack about the color, which is understandable, because orange cats do come in a range of shades.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s worth noting, however, that even the bots aren\u2019t on board with this product name. When I uploaded the photo of the LEGO orange cat set for this story, the automated meta description that popped up read: \u201cLego model of a brown cat.\u201d<\/p>\n

And color isn\u2019t the only issue.<\/p>\n

The LEGO orange cat set has no stripes. This is also true of the original cat set, but a solid black coat with a white chest is pretty iconic for a tuxedo kitty. Orange cats, on the other hand, as many Redditors pointed out, tend to have stripes.<\/p>\n

As someone who\u2019s had several orange cats over my lifetime, I concur\u2014whether they\u2019ve been a bright or muted orange, solid or sporting some white patches, I can\u2019t think of an orange cat I\u2019ve known who didn\u2019t have some sort of stripes.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not a dealbreaker for everyone. As one person noted, \u201cAs an orange cat owner, it\u2019s sad it doesn\u2019t have stripes, but I fricken love this set.\u201d In fact, some feel the set is pretty accurate: \u201cMy orange boy looks very similar to this set.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean it could be floofier, but it looks good to me!\u201d<\/p>\n

What more could cat fans want? Simple\u2014more poses.<\/p>\n

As it stands, the LEGO orange cat\u2019s upright sitting pose is a mirror image of the original black tuxedo cat set, right down to the movable ears, paws, and tail. The orange cat\u2019s mouth can also open and close, which is an upgrade over the original. But it\u2019s no loaf\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cWould love a different pose, maybe cat loaf,\u201d one person chimed in.<\/p>\n

Others got very specific: \u201cI only want it if I can make its right leg stretch out like my cat, Pepper.\u201d<\/p>\n

If you love orange cats, you might be wondering whether this Reddit thread drifted into a discussion about goofy orange cat behavior\u2014and the shared joke about the one brain cell that, as the mythology goes, all orange cats share, but only one can use at a time. The answer is yes, of course it did. One commenter noted, \u201cIt doesn\u2019t feel orange enough. It doesn\u2019t look like it\u2019s plotting to take me down and break a few fragile things in a spastic manner.\u201d<\/p>\n

Too much to ask for in a build?<\/p>\n

In the words of one LEGO fan in the thread: \u201cI\u2019m once again reminded that cat and dog people are very different.\u201d<\/p>\n
