The word \u201cgenocide\u201d was also tagged onto the monument, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.at5.nl\/artikelen\/238066\/nationaal-monument-op-de-dam-beklad-met-rode-verf-en-tekst-genocide\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" class=\"link-large\">reports AT5<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" class=\"body-large\">The National Monument in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iamexpat.nl\/lifestyle\/dutch-cities\/amsterdam\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" class=\"link-large\">Amsterdam<\/a> is a WWII memorial that plays a central role in the Remembrance Day commemoration, when the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iamexpat.nl\/lifestyle\/about-the-netherlands\/dutch-monarchy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" class=\"link-large\">royal family<\/a> and dignitaries lay wreaths at the monument and hold two minutes of silence at 8pm to remember those killed in the Second World War and more recent conflicts.<\/p>\n<p>Amsterdam war monument targeted several times<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" class=\"body-large\">The memorial was also defaced with red paint in August last year.
