{"id":74300,"date":"2026-05-04T10:37:11","date_gmt":"2026-05-04T10:37:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/74300\/"},"modified":"2026-05-04T10:37:11","modified_gmt":"2026-05-04T10:37:11","slug":"sebastien-buemi-criticises-berlin-formula-e-convoy-racing-as-too-much","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/74300\/","title":{"rendered":"Sebastien Buemi criticises Berlin Formula E \u201cconvoy\u201d racing as \u201ctoo much\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Formula E stalwart <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/driver\/sebastien-buemi\/8124\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sebastien Buemi<\/a>\u00a0criticised the extent of pack racing seen in the Berlin E-Prix, saying drivers were effectively running in a \u201cconvoy\u201d for much of the race.<\/p>\n<p>Last weekend\u2019s double-header in Germany saw several drivers deliberately give up track position and drop down the order to conserve energy, bunching up the field considerably.<\/p>\n<p>After <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/driver\/nico-mueller\/15399\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nico Muller<\/a> executed this strategy to perfection to claim his maiden Formula E win on Saturday, others followed suit on Sunday. Some drivers, including eventual race winner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/driver\/mitch-evans\/17548\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Mitch Evans<\/a>, even admitted to driving slowly in qualifying to start from further back, allowing them to save energy in the opening stages.<\/p>\n<p>This led to the entire field being compressed for the first third of the race, before drivers began deploying attack mode to charge to the front.<\/p>\n<p>This also led to a number of collisions, with Buemi getting involved in a four-way incident early in the race before having another run-in with Citroen\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/driver\/nick-cassidy\/19250\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Nick Cassidy<\/a>, who suffered front-wing damage.<\/p>\n<p>While such pack-style racing is common in Formula E, Buemi believes the combination of Berlin\u2019s layout and extreme energy saving pushed it too far.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don&#8217;t like it,\u201d the 2015-16 champion told Motorsport.com. \u201cThat&#8217;s the way it is. I need to get better at it. I&#8217;m getting less bad now, I would say.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Asked if the pack-style racing got extreme in Berlin, he added: \u201cIt\u2019s too much. But the nature of the track makes it bad &#8211; the [energy] saving and the nature.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s bad because you drive in a convoy for like 20 minutes and of course, contact will happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>   <img decoding=\"async\" draggable=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/1777891031_493_sebastien-buemi-envision-racin.jpg\" alt=\"Sebastien Buemi, Envision Racing\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" loading=\"lazy\"\/> <\/p>\n<p class=\"title\">Sebastien Buemi, Envision Racing<\/p>\n<p class=\"photographer\">Photo by: Jordan McKean \/ LAT Images via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Buemi wasn\u2019t the only driver who wasn\u2019t fond of the peloton-style race in Berlin, with Cupra Kiro star <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/driver\/dan-ticktum\/223140\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Dan Ticktum<\/a> telling Motorsport.com: \u201cLook, we&#8217;ve got to stay political, so probably no comment. It&#8217;s not my favourite though.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mahindra driver <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/driver\/nyck-de-vries\/19622\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Nyck de Vries<\/a>, who was involved in the early collision with Buemi, Cassidy and team-mate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/driver\/edoardo-mortara\/10801\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Edoardo Mortara<\/a>, also expressed his views on what he described as \u201cvery tricky racing\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don&#8217;t have an answer.
