COPENHAGEN, May 4 (Reuters) – The Danish financial supervisory authority (FSA) said on Monday it had asked Danish \u200cpolice to investigate whether Nordea Bank has \u200cfailed to comply with money laundering regulations on customer due diligence \u200bin Denmark.<\/p>\n
\u2022 The FSA said in a statement it had assessed that Nordea did not have sufficient knowledge of individuals within a larger group of customers who were \u200cissued with credit \u2060cards.<\/p>\n
\u2022 “The company did not conduct a sufficient assessment of why the customer wanted a \u2060credit card and what the credit card was to be used for,” the watchdog said.<\/p>\n
\u2022 It added that \u200bit assessed \u200bthere was a systematic \u200bdeficiency and that the \u200cnotes Nordea had made in its customer files were insufficient to assess the purpose and intended nature of the business relationship.<\/p>\n
\u2022 In addition, it said Nordea had failed to conduct a risk assessment, including risk classification, \u200cfor a large group of \u200bcustomers.<\/p>\n
\u2022 “The company thus failed to \u200baddress whether there were \u200bspecific risk factors that, from a \u200cmoney laundering and terrorist financing \u200bperspective, entailed an \u200bincreased risk associated with the customer relationship,” it said.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Nordea did not immediately respond to a \u200brequest for comment \u200cwhen contacted by Reuters via email.<\/p>\n
