{"id":74789,"date":"2026-05-05T00:35:27","date_gmt":"2026-05-05T00:35:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/74789\/"},"modified":"2026-05-05T00:35:27","modified_gmt":"2026-05-05T00:35:27","slug":"evans-battles-to-remarkable-race-2-win-from-17th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/74789\/","title":{"rendered":"Evans battles to remarkable Race 2 win from 17th"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jaguar driver <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosport.com\/driver\/mitch-evans\/841505\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Mitch Evans<\/a> claimed an unlikely Formula E win from 17th on the grid in Sunday\u2019s Berlin E-Prix, while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosport.com\/driver\/pascal-wehrlein\/829915\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Pascal Wehrlein<\/a> finished third to retake the points lead.<\/p>\n<p>Having missed out on the duels in what appeared to be a tactical move, Evans bided his time in the early phases of the race, with Saturday\u2019s opener proving that conserving energy at the back would pay dividends later on.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Although he spent a major chunk of the race outside the top 15, he quickly moved to the front after arming his first attack mode, taking the lead on lap 25 of 37.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He eventually crossed the line eight tenths clear of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosport.com\/team\/nissan-edams\/39182\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Nissan e.Dams<\/a>\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosport.com\/driver\/oliver-rowland\/841489\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Oliver Rowland<\/a> to claim his second win of the 2025-26 season, as Wehrlein rounded out the podium positions for Porsche.<\/p>\n<p>At the start of the race, Wehrlein pulled away cleanly from pole position but relinquished the lead soon after, putting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosport.com\/driver\/taylor-barnard\/950494\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Taylor Barnard<\/a> at the front of the field on lap 2. However, the lead continued to change hands in the opening-thirds of the race, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosport.com\/driver\/nick-cassidy\/841481\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Nick Cassidy<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosport.com\/driver\/edoardo-mortara\/829681\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Edoardo Mortara<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosport.com\/driver\/sebastien-buemi\/829272\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sebastien Buemi<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosport.com\/driver\/joel-eriksson\/842023\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Joel Eriksson<\/a> all taking turns at the front.<\/p>\n<p>The top 18 cars were separated by just four seconds after lap 14, as a typical pack-style contest ensued at Berlin Tempelhof before the first attack mode cycle.<\/p>\n<p>By lap 18, Rowland had surged to the front of the field, despite a poor launch from the penultimate row of the grid.<\/p>\n<p>   <img decoding=\"async\" draggable=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/1777941327_868_pascal-wehrlein-porsche-formul.jpg\" alt=\"Pascal Wehrlein, Porsche Formula E Team\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" loading=\"lazy\"\/> <\/p>\n<p class=\"title\">Pascal Wehrlein, Porsche Formula E Team<\/p>\n<p class=\"photographer\">Photo by: Joe Portlock \/ Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>A definite order began to emerge on lap 25, when Evans hit the front with attack mode after saving as much as 4% energy over his rivals.<\/p>\n<p>The final 12 laps featured a three-race horse for victory, with Evans, Rowland and Wehrlein pulling away from the chasing pack.<\/p>\n<p>Wehrlein initially grabbed the lead after arming his second attack mode, but Evans pulled off what appeared to be the decisive move with four laps to run en route to a record-extending 16th Formula E win.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly afterwards, Rowland also demoted\u00a0Wehrlein at the start\/finish straight amid a debris warning on track, but escaped investigation to claim a double podium over the Berlin weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Third-place for Wehrlein put him back at the top of the leaderboard, with Evans moving up to second after overnight leader\u00a0Mortara could only muster seventh in his Mahindra.<\/p>\n<p>Nissan driver <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosport.com\/driver\/norman-nato\/841487\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Norman Nato<\/a> secured his best result of the season in fifth with a similar strategy to team-mate Rowland, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosport.com\/driver\/jake-dennis\/841479\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Jake Dennis<\/a> bagging another solid haul of points for Andretti in sixth ahead of Mortara.<\/p>\n<p>   <img decoding=\"async\" draggable=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/oliver-rowland-nissan-formula-.jpg\" alt=\"Oliver Rowland, Nissan Formula E Team\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" loading=\"lazy\"\/> <\/p>\n<p class=\"title\">Oliver Rowland, Nissan Formula E Team<\/p>\n<p class=\"photographer\">Photo by: Joe Portlock \/ Getty Images<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosport.com\/driver\/jean-eric-vergne\/829670\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Jean-Eric Vergne<\/a> was classified eighth in the sole-surviving Citroen, with Andretti\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosport.com\/driver\/felipe-drugovich\/863837\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Felipe Drugovich<\/a> scoring his first points of the year in ninth ahead of Envision\u2019s\u00a0Erikson.<\/p>\n<p>Saturday winner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosport.com\/driver\/nico-mueller\/856704\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nico Muller<\/a> (Porsche) finished outside the points in 13th after a late collision with Jaguar driver <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosport.com\/driver\/antonio-felix-da-costa\/829675\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Antonio Felix da Costa<\/a> that triggered the only full-course yellow period of the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Citroen star Cassidy was eliminated from contention after being involved in two incidents early in the race. The Kiwi was forced out wide by Mahindra driver <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autosport.com\/driver\/nyck-de-vries\/841508\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Nyck de Vries<\/a> at Turn 6-7 on lap 4, a move that dropped him outside of the top 10.
