Copenhagen Airport has reported its busiest April on record, with 2.8 million passengers passing through the hub as demand for international travel continues to grow.<\/p>\n
The figure represents a 6% increase compared with the same month last year, with holiday travel during the Easter period contributing to the rise.<\/p>\n
Peter Krogsgaard, chief commercial officer at the airport, said the increase reflects strong global demand as the summer travel season approaches, although uncertainty in the geopolitical environment could still influence travel patterns.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeak travel season is beginning as we move closer to summer, and the global appetite for travel remains high,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Spain and Asia drive growth<\/p>\n
Spain was the most popular destination market in April, with more than 248,000 passengers travelling to and from Spanish cities \u2013 an increase of 8% year-on-year. Key destinations included Malaga, Barcelona and Mallorca.<\/p>\n
Stronger growth was recorded on routes to Asia, where passenger numbers rose by 14%. New long-haul services have been introduced, including flights to Ho Chi Minh City with Vietnam Airlines and to Shanghai with China Eastern Airlines. Meanwhile, Scandinavian Airlines has increased frequencies to Seoul.<\/p>\n
Krogsgaard said demand for Asian routes has been particularly strong, with high load factors and additional frequencies added on several services. The airport also expects further expansion, with Scandinavian Airlines planning to launch new routes to Thailand during the winter season.<\/p>\n
International tourism on the rise<\/p>\n
The airport said it continues to play a central role in boosting inbound tourism to Denmark. Data from Statistics Denmark shows overnight stays by international visitors rose by 8.1% compared with last year.<\/p>\n
European travellers still account for around 85% of overnight stays, but the fastest growth is coming from markets outside Europe. Visitor numbers from Asia have risen sharply, with overnight stays up by around 40% compared with early 2025.<\/p>\n
Krogsgaard said improved air connectivity has made Denmark more accessible to international visitors, linking increased tourism directly to new long-haul routes, particularly to Seoul and Shanghai.<\/p>\n
Fuel costs remain a concern<\/p>\n
Despite strong passenger growth, the airport said airlines are continuing to monitor rising costs linked to global events.<\/p>\n
The aviation sector has been affected by higher oil and jet fuel prices following tensions in the Middle East since late February. Fuel is one of the largest operating costs for airlines, and price increases can influence route planning and capacity.<\/p>\n
Krogsgaard said some airlines have made minor adjustments to flight schedules, typically on routes with multiple daily services. However, he added that higher fuel costs have not yet had a significant impact on overall traffic at Copenhagen Airport.<\/p>\n
