Trump had earlier criticised the European Union over what he described as shortcomings in implementing a trade agreement signed in August 2025, warning that tariffs could be increased. In response, von der Leyen said that the United States has also not fully met its commitments under the deal, particularly in relation to grain supply arrangements.<\/p>\n
\u201cNow both sides are implementing this agreement, although in accordance with different democratic procedures. On the EU side, we are in the final stage of fulfilling the remaining tariff obligations. At the same time, the US also has obligations. For example, they have not yet fulfilled the agreements on limiting grain supplies,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Under the terms of the agreement, the European Union agreed to impose 15% tariffs on all its exports to the United States in exchange for zero tariffs on US exports to Europe. The deal also ensures that the EU will purchase US energy resources worth up to \u20ac750 billion by 2028.<\/p>\n
