AMSTERDAM, N.Y. \u2014 Grow Amsterdam NY, in partnership with the Montgomery County Soil and Water Conservation District, invites community members to learn the basics of composting at home during an upcoming \u201cHome Composting 101\u201d workshop. The event will take place on Saturday, May 9, at\u00a0 10:00 AM at the Community Garden, 78 Wall Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010.\u00a0<\/p>\n
This hands-on workshop is designed for beginners and anyone interested in reducing food waste while improving soil health. Participants will explore several composting methods, including wire bins, compost tumblers, and a four-bin composting system\u2014demonstrating practical solutions for a range of household needs.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Attendees will learn:\u00a0<\/p>\n
The difference between hot and cold composting\u00a0\u00a0 How to create a balanced compost \u201crecipe\u201d using green (nitrogen) and brown (carbon) materials\u00a0 \u2022 The environmental and soil health benefits of compost\u00a0\u00a0 How to properly use finished compost in gardens and landscapes\u00a0\u00a0 <\/p>\n
A live demonstration compost pile will be built during the session, providing a step-by-step look at how simple and effective composting can be.\u00a0<\/p>\n
