{"id":77184,"date":"2026-05-07T16:30:11","date_gmt":"2026-05-07T16:30:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/77184\/"},"modified":"2026-05-07T16:30:11","modified_gmt":"2026-05-07T16:30:11","slug":"esa-sells-michigan-bess-project-to-danish-energy-developer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/77184\/","title":{"rendered":"ESA sells Michigan BESS project to Danish energy developer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>                    By Martin McConnell<br \/>\n                    May 7, 2026<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"394\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/dreamstime_m_431392037-1-700x394.jpg\" alt=\"battery storage facility BESS\" class=\"wp-image-59180\"  \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/esa-solar.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ESA Solar Energy LLC<\/a> has sold its 150 MW \/ 600 MWh Salzburg Battery Energy Storage Project to Fredericia, Denmark-based energy firm <a href=\"https:\/\/us.orsted.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u00d8rsted<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Located in central Michigan\u2019s Midland Township, the project first gained approval in early 2025, and is strategically located to help the Mitten State meet its utility offtake needs, the companies say. The project\u2019s new owner is targeting a commercial energization date between 2029 and 2030, with the project having already progressed through permitting and advancement milestones.<\/p>\n<p>Michigan is quickly becoming a <a href=\"https:\/\/solarbuildermag.com\/energy-storage\/franklinwh-to-participate-in-michigan-residential-solar-and-battery-program\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">hotspot market for energy storage<\/a>, representatives of sale facilitator <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ascendanalytics.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ascend Analytics<\/a> says. The company served as ESA\u2019s advisor through its Ascend Energy Exchange, and says Michigan is aiming for a 60% renewable portfolio standard by 2035, and 100% renewable energy generation by 2040.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cESA has deep expertise in early-phase project development and its track record of partnering with tier one renewables and storage firms, like \u00d8rsted, positions the Salzburg BESS project up to make substantial long-term contributions to Michigan\u2019s clean capacity goals,\u201d says Rahm Orenstein, managing director of the Ascend Energy Exchange. <\/p>\n<p>Selling Salzburg<\/p>\n<p>ESA has \u201cdeep experience\u201d with renewable energy projects across Michigan and the surrounding area, Ascend Analytics says, having served the region since 2017. Following the sale, the company will maintain a local presence in central Michigan. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cESA has long focused on developing projects that combine strong fundamentals with permitting, and interconnection progress that means we actually can contribute to state and local energy needs in a timely manner,\u201d says Lindsay Latre, co-founder and CEO of ESA. \u201c\u00d8rsted is the ideal partner to steward the Salzburg project through the next stage of its development and we are pleased to partner with them as we help to meet Michigan\u2019s energy and environmental goals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>ESA has helped to develop more than 8 GW in solar and storage over the past decade, the company says.
