\n\tEXCLUSIVE: Brazilian director Gabe Kinger\u2019s second feature Isabel<\/a> world premieres in Berlin\u2019s Panorama section next week and Deadline can reveal a first clip.<\/p>\n

\n\tActress and TV personality Marina Persona plays the titular Isabel, a sommeli\u00e8re in S\u00e3o Paulo\u2019s fine-dining scene, who dreams of escaping her controlling boss and opening her own wine bar, where she decides what goes in the glass.<\/p>\n

\n\tFlying in the face of male arrogance and the city\u2019s penchant for beer and Brazil<\/a>\u2019s national drink, the caipirinha, Isabel opens a small neighborhood wine, called Os Rejeitados (The Rejects) and specializing in natural wine\u2026 what could possibly go wrong?<\/p>\n

\n\tKlinger\u2019s homecoming film, after many years spent living in Chicago, is a love letter to his native city and wine.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI got into wine during the pandemic because there was nothing to do, and I discovered there were a lot of women in the wine world, which I found vibrant and interesting,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

\n\tHe suggests that Brazil is one of the few markets where wine consumption is on the rise.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWhat\u2019s happening in Brazil is people, especially people in cities, are switching from beer and hard liquor over to wine. If you\u2019re drinking less, drink something memorable, like an artisanal made wine.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tOscar-winning I\u2019m Still Here producer Rodrigo Teixeira<\/a> produces under his RT Features banner. \u00a0The pair first met when Klinger was \u201csofa-hopping\u201d in New York in the 2010s, and Teixeira was trying to get Frances Ha off the ground.<\/p>\n

\n\tIsabel is among half a dozen projects by produced by Teixeira due to hit the festival circuit this year, including <\/a>Bowls of Hell<\/a>, which just played at Rotterdam, and James Gray\u2019s Paper Tiger, which is tipped for Cannes.<\/p>\n
