\n\tContainer shipping company AP Moller-Maersk saw Q1 2026 bunker consumption drop by 5.3% from Q1 2025 on efficiency gains.<\/p>\n
\n\tThe firm consumed a total of 2.51 million fuel oil equivalent tonnes (FOEmt) in Q1 2025, down by 5.3% from Q1 2025 and 3.7% from Q4 2025, it said in an earnings release on Thursday.<\/p>\n
\n\tThe company also said that, effective from Q1 2026, fuel oil equivalent tonnes have become its standard reporting unit for bunker consumption, replacing metric tonnes (MT).<\/p>\n

\n\tMaersk is among the world’s largest bunker fuel consumers<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cThis transition reflects the company\u2019s progress on its energy transition journey, as a growing share of energy consumption now comes from lower-GHG-emission fuels with lower calorific value compared to conventional fossil fuels,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n
\n\tThe company operated a fleet of 21 dual-fuel vessels capable of running on methanol as of the end of March.<\/p>\n
\n\tMaersk is one of the world’s largest consumers of bunker fuel.<\/p>\n
\n\tThe firm consumed 6.05 FOEkg per TEU per day\u00a0of marine fuel in Q1, down from 6.57 FOEkg\/TEU day in Q1 2025.<\/p>\n
\n\tThe average bunker price for the firm in Q1 was $486 FOEmt, down from $577 FOEmt\u00a0in Q1 2025.<\/p>\n
\n\tThe company said the Middle East crisis had a limited impact on its Q1 performance but has added uncertainty moving forward.<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cWe\u2019ve seen strong demand across most regions this quarter, supporting robust volume growth in our three business segments, Vincent Clerc, CEO at Maersk, said.<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cIn Ocean in particular, market volatility remains high and industry oversupply continues to put pressure on rates.\u201d<\/p>\n
