{"id":78738,"date":"2026-05-09T19:43:13","date_gmt":"2026-05-09T19:43:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/78738\/"},"modified":"2026-05-09T19:43:13","modified_gmt":"2026-05-09T19:43:13","slug":"the-australian-businessman-at-the-centre-of-trumps-greenland-plan-announces-major-update-on-mining-company","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/78738\/","title":{"rendered":"The Australian businessman at the centre of Trump&#8217;s Greenland plan announces major update on mining company"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An Australian businessman at the centre of Donald Trump\u2019s quest for Greenland has revealed his company can produce 50 per cent of the world\u2019s rare earths in three years.<\/p>\n<p>Tony Sage purchased the company that would become Critical Metals Corp from Perth geologist Greg Barnes, who discovered the world\u2019s largest rare earths deposit in Greenland.<\/p>\n<p>The company has a 92.5 per cent stake in the Tanbreez project in South Greenland which has attracted the attention of the Trump administration.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Sage said Critical Metals Corp will be able to start mining the region in mid to late 2029 and extracting rare earths soon after.<\/p>\n<p>After this gets underway, the company will dominate the critical minerals space, Mr Sage said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe&#8217;re only going to be producing 500,000 tonnes per annum (but) we will produce 50 per cent of the world&#8217;s heavy rare earth by 2029 &#8211; once we&#8217;re in production,\u201d Mr Sage told Business Weekend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat&#8217;s why this is so important for the Western world to get this mine up and operating.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said the company is \u201csitting on a tightrope\u201d due to geographical pressures in the region.<\/p>\n<p>Greenland is caught between wanting independence from Denmark but not wanting to depend on the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s call to annex Greenland has put a microscope on the superpower\u2019s efforts to get rare earth minerals as it looks for an edge against China.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Sage said he has to ensure his communications with the United States do not upset local Greenland officials.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"poster-img\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/5f3d83c2e457674d700d71b934462324.jpeg\" data-sctrack=\"op-poster-img\" alt=\"Trump announces creation of US strategic critical minerals reserve\" fetchpriority=\"high\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe&#8217;ve got to play the US side quite well,\u201d Mr Sage said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;ve talked to the Speaker of the House, I&#8217;ve talked to Donald Trump Jr in relation to Greenland. So we&#8217;ve got good access.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut right now we&#8217;re just trying to draw a nice line.
