Kennet Eichhorn etched his name into the history books on Sunday after becoming the youngest goalscorer in Bundesliga 2 history during Hertha Berlin\u2019s 2-1 victory over Greuther F\u00fcrth. The 16-year-old struck in the 55th minute at the Olympiastadion to continue a stunning breakthrough campaign. <\/p>\n

Already regarded as one of German football’s brightest young talents,\u00a0Eichhorn<\/a> – who has been with Hertha since childhood – is shattering records from the very outset of his journey in senior football. Against Karlsruhe<\/a> on Matchday 2<\/a> this season, he became the league’s outright youngest-ever player, before going on to become the league’s youngest ever starter<\/a> shortly after on Matchday 5 against\u00a0Hannover<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Months later, he also made DFB Pokal history by scoring in Hertha’s 5-1 rout against Kaiserslautern<\/a>, and now, after striking against\u00a0F\u00fcrth<\/a> on Matchday 33, he has his first league goal for the club. In doing so, he has broken the Bundesliga 2 record previously held by Gunther Reeg, who netted for\u00a0Darmstadt<\/a> against Duisburg at the age of 16 years and 339 days all the way back in 1985.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Eichhorn is certainly keeping good company with both RB Leipzig<\/a>‘s Assan Ou\u00e9draogo<\/a> and Bayern Munich<\/a>‘s Leon Goretzka<\/a> making the top 10 list for the league’s youngest ever goalscorers – coming in at third- and ninth-place respectively – but it is the Hertha starlet who tops the pile.<\/p>\n

Speaking after the victory over F\u00fcrth<\/a>, Eichhorn’s captain Fabian Reese<\/a> heaped praise on the composed manner in which the 16-year-old took his goal, revealing:\u00a0“Kenny\u2019s nickname isn\u2019t \u2018Brandenburg’s King of Feints\u2019 for nothing – he\u2019s really good at that move, he does it in training and we\u2019ll definitely see it on other stages too. For the goal, he did a bit more than just finish off my assist.”<\/p>\n

Hertha head coach Stefan Leitl<\/a> also recently said of his star midfielder, who is understandably gathering many admirers in the football world: “Our greatest wish is that he [Eichhorn] stays \u2013 not just mine, but all of ours.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Leitl also hopes that the Eichhorn “retains his ease and youthful spirit, that he goes onto the pitch with joy.”<\/p>\n
