{"id":79294,"date":"2026-05-10T19:58:20","date_gmt":"2026-05-10T19:58:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/79294\/"},"modified":"2026-05-10T19:58:20","modified_gmt":"2026-05-10T19:58:20","slug":"sweden-halts-construction-of-power-cable-to-denmark-after-eu-row-72","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/79294\/","title":{"rendered":"Sweden halts construction of power cable to Denmark after EU row"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n                        Sweden has ordered the expansion of a key power interconnector to Denmark to be halted after failing to reach agreement with the European Commission over bottleneck fees.\n                    <\/p>\n<p>Sweden&#8217;s Energy and Climate Minister Ebba Busch on Friday announced that she was ordering Sweden&#8217;s grid operator Svenska Kraftn\u00e4t to stop work on the renewal and expansion of the Konti-Skan Connect cable between Gothenburg and northern Jutland.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The EU should not be able to steal Swedes&#8217; electricity money,&#8221; Busch told the TT newswire, saying that there were aspects of the Commission&#8217;s new proposals on using bottleneck fees paid to grid operators that were &#8220;unacceptable to Sweden&#8221;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are lifting and pausing the Konti-Skan Connect interconnector to Denmark until we are heard by the EU,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-861021\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/map.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"703\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The Konti-Skan Connect interconnector links Gothenburg with northern Jutland. Photo: Anders Humlebo\/TT<\/p>\n<p>The suspension follows a conflict earlier this year between Sweden and the Commission over a proposal to allow the EU to use 25 percent of members states&#8217; bottleneck fees \u2013 the fees paid by electricity consumers to help fund the expansion of transmission and distribution grids.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In March, the Commission agreed that Sweden would not have to share bottleneck fees paid to Svenska Kraftn\u00e4t with other EU countries.<\/p>\n<p>But a new conflict has blown up over some of the Commission&#8217;s other proposals.
