{"id":79843,"date":"2026-05-11T14:57:44","date_gmt":"2026-05-11T14:57:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/79843\/"},"modified":"2026-05-11T14:57:44","modified_gmt":"2026-05-11T14:57:44","slug":"gabrielzinho-dances-his-way-to-triple-gold-in-berlin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/79843\/","title":{"rendered":"Gabrielzinho dances his way to triple gold in Berlin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cSpitzenklasse\u201d \u2014 the German word for world-class\u00a0\u2014 perfectly captured the atmosphere at the Para Swimming World Series Berlin 2026, which concluded on Saturday (9 May) after three days of high-quality competition.<\/p>\n<p>The season\u2019s largest meet so far brought together nearly 400 athletes from 60 countries at the Schwimm- &amp; Sprunghalle im Europasportpark, with Great Britain and Brazil sharing the spotlight in the German capital.<\/p>\n<p>Highlighted by a team performance, the British squad topped the medals table with eight golds followed by the Brazilians, led by an individual outstanding performance from iconic Gabriel Araujo who left the German capital as the most decorated athlete.<\/p>\n<p>The full results of the Para Swimming World Series Berlin 2026 can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/germanaquatics.de\/event\/para-swimming-world-series-2026\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>GB as a team<\/p>\n<p>Of the eight gold medals won by Great Britain at the SSE in Berlin, only one athlete reached the top of the podium more than once.<\/p>\n<p>Three-time Paralympic champion Poppy Maskill (S14) clinched two gold medals winning the women&#8217;s 100m backstroke and 200m freestyle.<\/p>\n<p>Maskill saw six other teammates adding one gold each to the British medals haul.\u00a0Among the female performers who shone in Berlin were Georgia Sheffield (S14) in the 100m freestyle, Faye Rogers (S10) in the 100m butterfly, Olivia Newman-Baronius (SM14) in the 200m individual medley, and Aaliyah Richards (SB14) in the 100m breaststroke.<\/p>\n<p>Richards debuted in international competitions with a gold medal and celebrated the achievement passionately in the pool.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;m really happy with my performance. That race meant a lot to me. He delivered both at Berlin 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The Brazilian five-time Paralympic champion and winner of the 2026 Laureus World Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability Award topped the individual ranking by collecting three gold and a silver medal.<\/p>\n<p>Araujo was the winner in the men&#8217;s 50m and 100m freestyle, in addition to the 150m medley event. Gabrielzinho, as he&#8217;s popularly known, also claimed a silver medal in the 50m butterfly.<\/p>\n<p>Brazil also saw two other stars shining in German waters with world champion Samuel Oliveira (S5) topping the podium twice, in the men&#8217;s 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly.<\/p>\n<p>Closing the golden list of the Brazilian team, Patricia Pereira dos Santos (SB3) was the fastest in the women&#8217;s 50m breaststroke.<\/p>\n<p>Another high point from Brazil&#8217;s performance was 17-year-old world champion Beatriz de Araujo Flausino smashing the SB14&#8217;s world record in the women&#8217;s 100m breaststroke, clocking in 1:11.52.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I feel very happy and grateful for everything I&#8217;ve been doing. I knew that sooner or later, this would happen because since the beginning of the year, I&#8217;ve been giving up everything and everyone to achieve this result.
