{"id":80255,"date":"2026-05-12T05:36:11","date_gmt":"2026-05-12T05:36:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/80255\/"},"modified":"2026-05-12T05:36:11","modified_gmt":"2026-05-12T05:36:11","slug":"former-db-schenker-hub-in-co-antrim-on-the-market-as-new-danish-owner-consolidates-operations-the-irish-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/80255\/","title":{"rendered":"Former DB Schenker hub in Co Antrim on the market as new Danish owner consolidates operations \u2013 The Irish News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">THE former Northern Ireland base of the German <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishnews.com\/tags\/logistics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishnews.com\/tags\/logistics\/\">logistics<\/a> group DB Schenker has been put up for sale just 12 months after the business was acquired by the Danish transport giant DSV.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The freight hub in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishnews.com\/tags\/mallusk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishnews.com\/tags\/mallusk\/\">Mallusk<\/a>, which had operated as Redhead International, has closed following last year\u2019s acquisition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">DSV paid rail operator Deutsche Bahn \u20ac14.3 billion (\u00a312.3bn) for DB Schenker on April 30 2025, creating a \u20ac41bn group with a workforce of 160,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">At the time, the German logistics firm operated from a warehouse facility in Co Antrim, employing around 30 people.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishnews.com\/news\/business\/live-autumn-budget-2024-S2YSBNNOQZBJLFMAAHVSHUBUUA\/\" aria-hidden=\"true\" tabindex=\"-1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"Live: Autumn Budget 2024\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/OGWGZFKFDFGD5JWH7BB3IMK7FM.png\"  width=\"800\" height=\"450\"\/><\/a><a class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishnews.com\/news\/business\/plans-revealed-to-demolish-landmark-south-belfast-hotel-and-pub-for-student-accommodation-OY6F3J4QWNCL5DGTVREZZ5QLJQ\/\" aria-hidden=\"true\" tabindex=\"-1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"Plans announced to demolish landmark south Belfast hotel and pub for student accommodation\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/IJN5H6N6GZDH5NMURN2BWIGCII.jpg\"  width=\"800\" height=\"450\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The freight forwarding facility, located next to the Henderson Group\u2019s headquarters, was originally established as a Northern Ireland base for Bradford-based Redhead International.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"DB Schenker acquired Redhead International in 2016.\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/BJ4O2LPTMNCERMLSSEHS2YNGMI.jpg\"  width=\"800\" height=\"450\"\/>DB Schenker acquired Redhead International in 2016. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Redhead was acquired by DB Schenker in 2016. At the time, it had a fleet of 300 trucks operating from five UK depots, including Mallusk.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Following the latest acquisition, DSV has confirmed it has moved all operations into its main hub at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishnews.com\/tags\/belfast-harbour\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishnews.com\/tags\/belfast-harbour\">Belfast Harbour<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The 35,000 sq ft industrial site in Mallusk is now up for sale, with offers being accepted in excess of \u00a32.5 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">DSV already has a significant presence in the Irish market.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Alongside its 16 sites in the Republic, it operates facilities at Foyle Port and Belfast International Airport, with its main northern hub located at Dargan Road in Belfast.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"DSV's Belfast Harbour facility.\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/R2QUDWMXYZEJPBXJ3DOOS7MFBE.jpg\"  width=\"800\" height=\"410\"\/>DSV&#8217;s Belfast Harbour facility. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">DSV confirmed it has now moved to consolidate the DB Schenker operation into its Belfast Harbour hub.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cAs part of the integration process, we are adjusting our business to the market situation,\u201d said a spokesperson.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThis includes divestments of sites to avoid excess capacity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cWe remain committed to our business in Northern Ireland, where our footprint is now even stronger after the acquisition of Schenker.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">It\u2019s understood around 30 people had been employed from the Mallusk site. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The company said while there were no forced redundancies, some employees had left through \u201cnatural churn or decided to work elsewhere\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Last year\u2019s acquisition of DB Schenker was perhaps the biggest milestone in the history of the DSV business since acquiring the DFDS Dan Transport Group in 2000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">That move brought it into the UK and Irish market, with DFDS Transport later rebranded as DSV.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Despite selling the \u2018Dan Transport\u2019 division of its group to DSV to focus on ferry operations, fellow Danish logistics group DFDS returned to the Irish transport market in a major way four years ago.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">In September 2022 it acquired Dublin-based Lucey Transport Logistics and three months later paid \u00a3138 million for the Ballymena-based McBurney Transport.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">At the time of the deal, DFDS employed 800 people across eight locations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"THE former Northern Ireland base of the German logistics group DB Schenker has been put up for sale&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":80256,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":"","_share_on_mastodon":"0"},"categories":[273],"tags":[3660,23591,42765,6057,282,1978,42764,42766],"class_list":["post-80255","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-dsv","tag-acquisitions","tag-belfast-harbour","tag-commercial-property","tag-dfds","tag-dsv","tag-logistics","tag-mallusk","tag-newtownabbey"],"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@dk\/116559989095311844","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/80255","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=80255"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/80255\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/80256"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=80255"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=80255"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=80255"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
