DFDS will be able to offer an improved schedule of sailings to and from France next year after securing what they described as a \u201cprime and competitive\u201d departure slot from Saint Malo for its fastcraft services.<\/p>\n
The agreement \u2013 which has seen the majority of the Danish shipping firm\u2019s preferred sailing times approved \u2013 has been described by Jersey route director Chris Parker as \u201ca great result for DFDS, our customers and our partners on both sides of the Channel\u201d.<\/p>\n
It follows the conclusion of discussions with Saint Malo authorities, with DFDS confirming that it has secured the \u201cmuch sought-after\u201d 7.45am (6.45am GMT) departure slot from the French port.<\/p>\n
This will enable a 9.30am departure from Jersey, with a 6pm return.<\/p>\n
Mr Parker had previously signalled his hopes for an improved timetable during a recent hearing with the the Economic and International Affairs Scrutiny Panel, which raised public criticism around this year\u2019s timings for day trips to France.<\/p>\n
Work on a\u00a0major project to modernise Saint Malo\u2019s ageing ferry terminal\u00a0and improve the harbour area has also temporarily meant that only one berth is available.<\/p>\n
Mr Parker described the 7.45am French departure as \u201ca prime and competitive time slot\u201d.<\/p>\n
He added: \u201cWe look forward to working with our partners to make the most of the opportunity and to deliver a high-quality experience for our passengers.\u201d<\/p>\n
Visit Jersey chief executive Tricia Warwick has also welcomed the news, which she described as \u201can excellent outcome for Jersey\u2019s connectivity with our neighbours in France\u201d.<\/p>\n
She added that it would also make the Island \u201cmore appealing for day trip and short break visitors\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe new timetable also supports our efforts to grow inbound tourism from Brittany and beyond, which is a key priority for 2026,\u201d Ms Warwick continued.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe look forward to working with DFDS and Ports of Jersey to promote the route and to keep Jersey accessible and attractive for French visitors.\u201d<\/p>\n
