{"id":80997,"date":"2026-05-12T21:04:13","date_gmt":"2026-05-12T21:04:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/80997\/"},"modified":"2026-05-12T21:04:13","modified_gmt":"2026-05-12T21:04:13","slug":"berlins-pergamon-museum-will-reopen-in-mid-2027-after-restoration-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/80997\/","title":{"rendered":"Berlin&#8217;s Pergamon Museum will reopen in mid-2027 after restoration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BERLIN (AP) \u2014 Berlin\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/germany-berlin-pergamon-museum-liam-gillick-renovation-56cca5b52f0ff073e080d197789df485\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pergamon Museum<\/a>, traditionally one of the German capital\u2019s top tourist attractions, will reopen next year after the first part of a painstaking restoration effort that has kept its centerpiece out of the public eye for more than a decade.<\/p>\n<p>The Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, which oversees many of Berlin\u2019s museums, announced Monday that the museum will reopen on June 4, 2027.<\/p>\n<p>The museum\u2019s centerpiece is the 2nd-century B.C. Pergamon Altar. The part of the building containing the <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/dbb77302e8a3447190773ec57b888aef\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Pergamon Altar<\/a> has been closed for far longer, since 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Some parts will remain closed for work even after next year\u2019s reopening, notably the wing containing Babylon\u2019s Ishtar Gate. The museum is slated to reopen fully in 2037.<\/p>\n<p>The museum is being restored as part of a long-term plan to overhaul the neoclassical Museum Island complex, which was built between 1830 and 1930 and is a UNESCO World Heritage site.<\/p>\n<p>Parts of the island were badly damaged during World War II, and cash-strapped communist East Germany never fully restored it.
