With an impressive 8,278 pieces, it will be the largest LEGO Lord of the Rings set to date, even putting LEGO 10316 Rivendell in the shade. The RRP is $649.99 \/ \u00a3579.99 \/ \u20ac649.99, making it not only the most expensive LOTR set, but also taking the current sixth place on the list of largest LEGO sets<\/a>. The set will remain exclusively at LEGO for at least three months, and at launch there will be the exclusive Gift with Purchase of the battering ram \u201cGrond\u201d.<\/p>\n The LEGO Minas Tirith shows the city from the third film The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King before the great battle and recreates the seven rings of the city walls in microscale to do justice to the sheer size of this setting. The walls are equipped with small trebuchets and the white tree stands at the top. The lowest ring shows the massive gate and is special in that it can be populated with minifigures. While they don\u2019t fit the scale, they make the wall a playset if needed \u2013 though you can skip this depending on your taste.<\/p>\n That\u2019s why the front walls can also be removed, revealing small scenes in minifigure scale in the inner courtyard, where soldiers can arm themselves or buy tomatoes at the market. These scenes are well hidden in the frontal view.<\/p>\n The other rings are then built entirely in small scale and equipped with appropriate houses, battlements, and mini-trebuchets. LEGO has appropriately chosen white as the base color for the name and uses sand green as the roof color for the towers.<\/p>\n At the top of the city is the citadel with the white tower and the entrance portal to the Hall of Kings. In front of it is the white tree of Minas Tirith, surrounded by a circular lawn.<\/p>\n Iconic to the silhouette of the White City is the far-protruding rocky outcrop, from which a burning Denethor could throw himself if needed.<\/p>\n On the left side of the second ring, a balcony is cleverly built into the scene, which can also be used as a place for Gandalf and Pippin, who talk there in the night before the battle.<\/p>\n Looking Inside Minas Tirith<\/p>\n The White City plays a prominent role especially in the third Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King and is the setting for numerous scenes. While the microscale front captures the general image of Minas Tirith, numerous scenes in minifigure scale are built on the back and the scales are deliberately different. Prominent in the middle is the Hall of Kings, which takes up almost the entire back and catches the eye with its black columns and golden decorations.<\/p>\n Here stands the throne of Gondor and next to it the chair of steward Denethor. The steward can take his famous meal at the table and feast on the tomatoes (represented here by red cherries). New printed 1 \u00d7 2 tiles are used for the floor mosaic. In the wings left and right stand white statues of the previous kings. The pedestals have 2 \u00d7 2 tiles with the white tree. The vault of the hall is also elaborately built and a large golden crown hangs from the ceiling like in the original.<\/p>\n Behind the windows hide even more scenes that you can explore. The side areas are specially designed modularly so you can easily access the rooms. The chronologically first appearance of Minas Tirith is in the first film, when Gandalf rides there to learn more about Sauron\u2019s One Ring in the archives. This library is on the left side and is recreated with shelves and scrolls.<\/p>\n Above it, the crypt is suggested, where Denethor builds the pyre for himself and Faramir. But there\u2019s only room for a wood supply and a torch.<\/p>\n To the right behind the window are the Houses of Healing, where the wounded from the Battle of the Pelennor Fields are treated, such as Faramir. Only seen in the Extended Edition of the third film.<\/p>\n One floor higher is a small chamber for the palant\u00edr, the seeing stone that poisons Denethor and is later used by Aragorn to challenge Sauron. Does the printed head on the back also hold another teaser for the next Lord of the Rings set, just like Minas Tirith and The Shire were announced that way?<\/p>\n New Parts & Prints<\/p>\n With this Lord of the Rings set, the designers were able to focus on the minifigures for new elements and work out the details with new shapes and prints. This includes Aragorn\u2019s crown, which combines hair and headpiece in a new form. This element is also used monochromatically in white directly for the statues of past kings. A 2 \u00d7 2 tile with white tree is used on each pedestal, which appears to be printed. Also printed are the 1 \u00d7 2 tiles in the Hall of Kings. For the floor mosaic, the film template was given a new print, of which 12 pieces are used on the floor.<\/p>\n A new fabric part is also included in the set, which shows the banner of the white tree. In the pictures, Arwen carries it at the coronation (as in the film), but the printed flag can of course also be combined excellently with the Gondor soldiers.<\/p>\n Additionally, we noticed some special bricks used in the city. For the microscale houses on the seven rings, printed 1 \u00d7 1 tiles with small windows are used. An element that was introduced for LEGO Architecture Neuschwanstein Castle, but is also used extensively here.<\/p>\n Comparison with the Original<\/p>\n In the third Peter Jackson film, the capital of Gondor takes center stage and the viewer gets to see the white fortress in all its glory. LEGO has successfully captured the overall image without having to do without the seven rings. What stands out in direct comparison is that the lowest wall and especially the gate are proportionally much taller to make the set work appropriately in combination with minifigures. This also creates a kind of forced perspective in the set, where the scale gets smaller and smaller towards the top.<\/p>\n For the film, Weta Workshops built a so-called \u201cBigature\u201d of Minas Tirith, which was still 7 meters (23 ft) tall and was used for various camera movements.<\/p>\n Even with the interior of the Hall of Kings, the designers have shown attention to detail and authentically captured the aesthetics with the black columns.<\/p>\n Exclusive Gift with Purchase: Grond Battering Ram<\/p>\n At launch, LEGO has designed an exclusive Gift with Purchase, as with the previous Lord of the Rings large sets, which you can only get directly from June 1.
