The RRP is $649.99 / £579.99 / €649.99, making it not only the most expensive LOTR set, but also taking the current sixth place on the list of largest LEGO sets. The set will remain exclusively at LEGO for at least three months, and at launch there will be the exclusive Gift with Purchase of the battering ram “Grond”.

The LEGO Minas Tirith shows the city from the third film The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King before the great battle and recreates the seven rings of the city walls in microscale to do justice to the sheer size of this setting. For the floor mosaic, the film template was given a new print, of which 12 pieces are used on the floor.

A new fabric part is also included in the set, which shows the banner of the white tree. In the pictures, Arwen carries it at the coronation (as in the film), but the printed flag can of course also be combined excellently with the Gondor soldiers.

Additionally, we noticed some special bricks used in the city. For the microscale houses on the seven rings, printed 1 × 1 tiles with small windows are used. An element that was introduced for LEGO Architecture Neuschwanstein Castle, but is also used extensively here.

Comparison with the Original

In the third Peter Jackson film, the capital of Gondor takes center stage and the viewer gets to see the white fortress in all its glory. LEGO has successfully captured the overall image without having to do without the seven rings. What stands out in direct comparison is that the lowest wall and especially the gate are proportionally much taller to make the set work appropriately in combination with minifigures. This also creates a kind of forced perspective in the set, where the scale gets smaller and smaller towards the top.

For the film, Weta Workshops built a so-called “Bigature” of Minas Tirith, which was still 7 meters (23 ft) tall and was used for various camera movements.

Even with the interior of the Hall of Kings, the designers have shown attention to detail and authentically captured the aesthetics with the black columns.

Exclusive Gift with Purchase: Grond Battering Ram

At launch, LEGO has designed an exclusive Gift with Purchase, as with the previous Lord of the Rings large sets, which you can only get directly from June 1. The wolf skull knocks on the great gate together with two minifigures. After the land of men received no attention in either the old Lord of the Rings sets or the newer models, LEGO is changing that this year and celebrating the White City with the largest LOTR set of all time. The epic setting with the seven city rings is impressively captured in a microscale model. The surprise on the back is a large recreation of the Hall of Kings, where the fantastic new minifigures can be displayed, implementing long-awaited characters.

The monumental LEGO Minas Tirith thus manages the balancing act between detailed display piece and the most important settings to recreate the familiar movie scenes. The challenges are simply finding space for the structure, and of course the price for over 8,000 individual pieces.

Are you lighting the beacon fire and excited about the new LEGO Minas Tirith set? Do you like how the capital of Gondor was implemented, and the selection of minifigures? Is the set coming to your Lord of the Rings collection and does the city itself or the Hall of Kings excite you more? Feel free to write your thoughts about the 18+ set in the comments!

*As an Amazon Associate and member of the eBay Partner Network, and other affiliate programs, we earn from qualifying purchases you make through our links to the retailers. By doing so, you support us – thank you!

*As an Amazon Associate and member of the eBay Partner Network, and other affiliate programs, we earn from…

[6050
24452,35122,4248,6051,27887,28954,35123
0":"post-81231","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-lego","8":"tag-24452","9":"tag-d2c","10":"tag-lego","11":"tag-lego-group","12":"tag-lego-lord-of-the-rings","13":"tag-new-releases","14":"tag-spotlight1
["GET
