{"id":81823,"date":"2026-05-13T18:31:11","date_gmt":"2026-05-13T18:31:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/81823\/"},"modified":"2026-05-13T18:31:11","modified_gmt":"2026-05-13T18:31:11","slug":"turkish-journalist-indicted-over-reporting-on-erdogan-family-alleged-irregularities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/81823\/","title":{"rendered":"Turkish journalist indicted over reporting on Erdo\u011fan family, alleged irregularities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>            <a href=\"https:\/\/stockholmcf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Ismail-Ari.jpg\" data-caption=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"391\" class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns=\" http:=\"\" data-lazy- data-lazy- alt=\"\" title=\"I\u0307smail Ar\u0131\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Ismail-Ari-696x391.jpg\"\/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"391\" class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Ismail-Ari-696x391.jpg\"   alt=\"\" title=\"I\u0307smail Ar\u0131\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Turkish prosecutors have indicted journalist \u0130smail Ar\u0131 for his online commentary and social media posts involving family members of President Recep Tayyip Erdo\u011fan as well as alleged irregularities in state bodies and the judiciary, the BirG\u00fcn daily <a href=\"https:\/\/www.birgun.net\/haber\/muhabirimiz-ismail-ari-hakkinda-hazirlanan-iddianame-kabul-edildi-ilk-durusma-5-haziran-da-712253\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors accused Ar\u0131 of publicly disseminating misleading information and violating confidentiality, seeking more than eight years in prison.<\/p>\n<p>The indictment claims that remarks Ar\u0131 made during a television program alleging the involvement of Erdo\u011fan family members in the management of 20 foundations and transfer of public funds to those organizations constituted disinformation.<\/p>\n<p>It also cited Ar\u0131\u2019s social media posts on alleged\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.birgun.net\/haber\/kamu-vakfi-naylon-faturalarla-soyulmus-583161\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">irregularities<\/a>\u00a0at the state-run Yunus Emre Institute, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.birgun.net\/haber\/tarihi-yapilar-gozden-cikarildi-698399\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">construction<\/a>\u00a0of a dormitory on a cultural heritage site near the imam hatip religious school from which President Erdo\u011fan graduated and judicial appointments.<\/p>\n<p>The Ankara 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance accepted the indictment, and the first hearing is\u00a0scheduled\u00a0for June 5.<\/p>\n<p>Ar\u0131 was <a href=\"https:\/\/stockholmcf.org\/turkish-court-orders-arrest-of-journalist-on-disinformation-charges\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">arrested<\/a> on March 22, sparking widespread criticism and protests from journalists, press organizations and opposition politicians. He has remained in pretrial detention since then.<\/p>\n<p>Ar\u0131 was also <a href=\"https:\/\/stockholmcf.org\/turkish-journalist-indicted-after-complaint-by-ministers-husband-over-corruption-report\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">indicted<\/a>\u00a0as part of a separate investigation after his report on alleged corruption at the Yunus Emre Institute on charges of creating the perception of involvement in corruption, following a complaint by former deputy chairman of the institute Rahmi G\u00f6kta\u015f, the husband of Family and Social Services Minister Mahinur G\u00f6kta\u015f.<\/p>\n<p>According to Expression Interrupted, a press freedom monitoring group, 27 journalists\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/expressioninterrupted.com\/tr\/liste.php\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">are<\/a>\u00a0currently behind bars in Turkey.
