(WRIC) \u2014 A global toy manufacturer is expanding in Virginia with a new warehouse and distribution center in Prince George County, which broke ground on Thursday. The facility is expected to provide jobs for local families and support the region\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n<p>The LEGO Group invested $366 million to build a new 2,000,000-square-foot warehouse in Prince George County\u2019s Crosspointe Business Centre site. The groundbreaking for the regional distribution center took place on Thursday, Nov. 13.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLEGO has always been more than a toy. It inspires creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving,\u201d said Prince George County Board of Supervisors Chairman Floyd Brown Jr. \u201cLEGO builds worlds in the minds of kids\u2014and adults too. Now, it will help shape the future here in Prince George County.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gov. Glenn Youngkin had previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wric.com\/news\/local-news\/prince-george\/youngkin-announces-lego-group-to-establish-warehouse-in-prince-george\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">announced the project<\/a> back in early May, claiming it would create 305 jobs. After originally calling it \u201can exciting new chapter\u201d for the manufacturer, he showed his support at the groundbreaking.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe partnership between the LEGO Group and the Commonwealth of Virginia is nothing short of awesome,\u201d Youngkin said. \u201cI look back to the very first moment we had to be introduced [to] LEGO, [which] was really evaluating Virginia against many, many, many other possible sites for the only U.S. manufacturing facility. And that meeting translated into an immediate announcement that the LEGO Group was going to come to Virginia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new facility will operate alongside the Chesterfield County factory at 8800 Wells Station Road, which is on track to open in 2027 and create more than 1,700 jobs. <\/p>\n<p>Youngkin thanked the Prince George Board of Supervisors, the EDA, county staff and Economic<br \/>Development &amp; Tourism Director Yoti Jabri, for their hard work and partnership in bringing this significant project to the county.<\/p>\n<p>As the LEGO Group\u2019s sixth regional distribution center, the facility will feature advanced automation, adding to the company\u2019s\u00a0regionally based supply chain network, per a Nov. 13 release from LEGO Group.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Thursday] is an extremely special day for us at the LEGO Group,\u201d said Cindy Sikora, Vice President, Supply Chain Operations, Americas, the LEGO Group, at the groundbreaking. \u201cIt\u2019s not every day that we break ground on a new distribution center.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The company aims to use 100% renewable energy to power the site, and to meet LEED Gold standards through energy efficiency, materials, water conservation and more, according to the release. To transport goods between the facility and LEGO Manufacturing Virginia, located about 20 miles away, it will use electric vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis isn\u2019t just a construction milestone for us,\u201d Sikora said. \u201cIt\u2019s a symbol of our commitment to investing long term in bringing the joy of Lego play to even more children across the Americas and around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>LEGO Group officials said they\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lego.com\/en-us\/aboutus\/news\/2025\/september\/more-lego-play-more-possibilities-in-central-virginia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">supported six nonprofits<\/a>\u00a0through grants expected to reach nearly 400,000 children in the area. On Friday, Nov. 7, the company also opened a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wric.com\/news\/local-news\/henrico-county\/new-lego-store-short-pump-town-center\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">new LEGO Store in Short Pump Town Center<\/a> in Henrico County.<\/p>\n<p>Once construction is complete, it will help ship those bricks to children and families across the Americas.
