{"id":8197,"date":"2026-02-10T16:11:09","date_gmt":"2026-02-10T16:11:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/8197\/"},"modified":"2026-02-10T16:11:09","modified_gmt":"2026-02-10T16:11:09","slug":"turkey-sends-2-people-to-prison-to-serve-sentences-on-conviction-of-gulen-links","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/8197\/","title":{"rendered":"Turkey sends 2 people to prison to serve sentences on conviction of G\u00fclen links"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>            <a href=\"https:\/\/stockholmcf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/detention.webp\" data-caption=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns=\" http:=\"\" data-lazy- data-lazy- alt=\"\" title=\"detention\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/detention-696x392.webp.webp\"\/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/detention-696x392.webp.webp\"   alt=\"\" title=\"detention\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Two people who were being sought by authorities following convictions over alleged links to the faith-based G\u00fclen movement have been arrested in Turkey\u2019s Ayd\u0131n province and remanded to prison to begin serving their sentences, Turkish media reported.<\/p>\n<p>A woman identified only by the initials <a href=\"https:\/\/www.haberler.com\/guncel\/feto-uyesi-s-c-nazilli-de-yakalandi-19545336-haberi\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">S. \u00c7.<\/a>, 38, and a man identified as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mansetaydin.com\/haber\/27412102\/nazillide-jasattan-nokta-atisi-12-yil-hapisle-aranan-o-isim-yakalandi-sucu-cok-agir\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">O. T.<\/a>, 46, were detained in separate police operations carried out in Nazilli on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>S. \u00c7. had been sentenced to more than seven years on charges of \u201cmembership in a terrorist organization,\u201d while O. T. had received a sentence of more than 12 years on charges of \u201cattempting to overthrow the constitutional order,\u201d in connection with a coup attempt on July 15, 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Both individuals were transported to prison to begin serving their sentences after the courts issued the arrest orders.<\/p>\n<p>Following the coup attempt, President Recep Tayyip Erdo\u011fan immediately accused the G\u00fclen movement, inspired by the late US-based cleric Fethullah G\u00fclen, of orchestrating the plot and significantly expanded an already underway crackdown on the movement\u2019s supporters.<\/p>\n<p>Erdo\u011fan\u2019s campaign against the movement began after corruption investigations in December 2013 implicated him as well as members of his family and inner circle, which he dismissed as a conspiracy, and formally designated it as a terrorist organization in May 2016. The movement strongly denies involvement in the coup attempt or any terrorist activity.<\/p>\n<p>According to the latest figures from the Justice Ministry, more than 126,000 people have been\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/basin.adalet.gov.tr\/adalet-bakani-yilmaz-tunc-canli-yayinda-sorulari-yanitladi_114893\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">convicted<\/a>\u00a0of alleged links to the movement since 2016, with 11,085 still in prison.
