{"id":8223,"date":"2026-02-10T16:32:07","date_gmt":"2026-02-10T16:32:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/8223\/"},"modified":"2026-02-10T16:32:07","modified_gmt":"2026-02-10T16:32:07","slug":"turkey-detains-8-for-aiding-families-of-people-jailed-over-gulen-links","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/8223\/","title":{"rendered":"Turkey detains 8 for aiding families of people jailed over G\u00fclen links"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>            <a href=\"https:\/\/stockholmcf.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/arrest.webp\" data-caption=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns=\" http:=\"\" data-lazy- data-lazy- alt=\"\" title=\"arrest\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/arrest-696x392.webp.webp\"\/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/arrest-696x392.webp.webp\"   alt=\"\" title=\"arrest\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Ankara Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office has ordered the detention of eight people on accusations of distributing financial assistance sent from abroad to the families of individuals imprisoned or dismissed from their jobs over alleged links to the faith-based G\u00fclen movement, the state-run TRT Haber <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trthaber.com\/haber\/turkiye\/fetonun-finans-yapilanmasina-operasyon-8-gozalti-934016.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Two of those detained were reportedly former public servants who were dismissed by emergency decrees issued in the aftermath of a coup attempt in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>A criminal magistrate of the peace ordered the arrest of one of the detainees, while legal proceedings are ongoing for the remaining seven, who are being held in custody.<\/p>\n<p>The detentions are the latest in a yearslong campaign by the government against the G\u00fclen movement, which authorities designate as a terrorist organization.<\/p>\n<p>Erdo\u011fan\u2019s campaign against the movement began after corruption investigations in December 2013 implicated him as well as members of his family and inner circle, which he dismissed as a conspiracy, and formally designated it as a terrorist organization in May 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Following the July 15, 2016, coup attempt, President Recep Tayyip Erdo\u011fan immediately accused the G\u00fclen movement, inspired by the late US-based cleric Fethullah G\u00fclen, of orchestrating the plot and significantly expanded an already underway crackdown on the movement\u2019s supporters. The movement strongly denies involvement in the coup attempt or any terrorist activity.<\/p>\n<p>Five days after the coup attempt, the Erdo\u011fan government declared a state of emergency and carried out a purge on the pretext of an anti-coup fight. Over 130,000 public servants were removed from their jobs for alleged membership in or relationships with \u201cterrorist organizations\u201d by those decrees, subject to neither judicial nor parliamentary scrutiny.<\/p>\n<p>According to the latest figures from the Justice Ministry, more than 126,000 people have been\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/basin.adalet.gov.tr\/adalet-bakani-yilmaz-tunc-canli-yayinda-sorulari-yanitladi_114893\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">convicted<\/a>\u00a0of alleged links to the movement since 2016, with 11,085 still in prison.
