A European capital built on 14 islands connected by 57 bridges has been branded “the most underrated city in all of Europe<\/a>“. The city is the largest in Scandinavia, and you can be there<\/a> in less than two and half hours.<\/p>\n

With direct flights<\/a> available from a number of major UK airports, including Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham, and Edinburgh, for as little as \u00a3150, it’s a great option if you’re looking for a break without shelling out too much. The city is awash with history, and is home to a wide range of museums showcasing everything from historic artefacts and contemporary art to ABBA.<\/p>\n

That last hint has probably tipped you off to where we’re talking about, but in case you haven’t guessed it yet – the city in question is Stockholm, the capital of Sweden<\/a>. A number of photos of the city were posted on X, formerly Twitter, by account Glimpses of Culture, who said: “This is the most underrated city in all of Europe<\/a>.”<\/p>\n

Tourism website Visit Sweden<\/a> says Stockholm “effortlessly intertwines a rich history and stunning nature with the cultural sophistication, modern architecture, and dynamic attitudes of a thriving metropolis”. It adds: “This unique blend is enhanced by the omnipresence of water, adding an extra layer of charm.”<\/p>\n

It continues the city is home to the latest Pride festival in the Nordic region, and is also the base of a number of tech giants, including music streaming service Spotify, and Minecraft developers Mojang Studios. “Each district in the city has its own unique personality,” the site says.<\/p>\n

“For example, S\u00f6dermalm is known for its creative atmosphere, \u00d6stermalm for its elegance, and Norrmalm for its vibrant energy. In between you find the Old Town (Gamla Stan), contributing to the diverse appeal of Stockholm.<\/p>\n

“Located on Sweden\u2019s southeast coast, the weather in Stockholm changes according to four distinct seasons. Summers are warm \u2013 sometimes quite hot \u2013 and it rarely gets dark during summer nights.<\/p>\n

“The winters may be mild and rainy but can also be cold and snowy. The colours of autumn are spectacular in the city parks, and spring is welcomed by locals, wrapped in blankets and sipping a drink, at outdoor restaurants and caf\u00e9s.”<\/p>\n

Many people on X agreed with the assessment of the city. One said: “Was there recently, absolutely loved it, such a chill place.”<\/p>\n

Another wrote: “I have visited Stockholm twice. It’s a calm, clean, and peaceful city. The people are friendly and helpful. Spending time in Gamla Stan, especially during Christmas, was wonderful.”<\/p>\n

Someone else said: “The magic of Stockholm lies in its enchanting little streets. But the entire city is beautiful.” And a different user said: “Stockholm is a superb place. Quite small, but defo worth going back to.”<\/p>\n

But others took issue with the description of the city. One said: “Hahaha whaaaaat??! No-one, literally NO-ONE, would call Stockholm underrated? Everyone knows it\u2019s a nice Scandinavian semi-big city with culture and good food and a nice archipelago?”<\/p>\n

And some were less enthusiastic. One said: “It\u2019s not underrated at all. The cost of an apartment in Stockholm on par with the cost in London and New York. One might even say it\u2019s overrated. The winters are long and harsh. You get a few weeks per year of weather as shown in the pictures.”<\/p>\n

Another wrote: “It really isn\u2019t.
