The organisers of the Rimi Rīga Marathon, together with the Emergency Medical Service (NMPD), urge runners to take responsibility for their health.

In cooperation with the NMPD, the organisers have ensured extensive medical assistance along the course and at the finish line, and they urge not only participants but also spectators to carefully review the safety guidelines so they can assist and facilitate the work of medical staff on duty during the marathon if necessary.

First Aid on the Course

Medical staff will accompany runners along the entire course regardless of the distance chosen by the participant, and mobile assistance teams consisting of medical professionals and medical students on bicycles will also be present among the runners. Medical personnel can be identified by the “Medical Help” inscription on their shirts.

Nine NMPD teams will be on duty along the marathon route, while the finish area will feature an expanded first-aid station and a fully equipped medical aid tent staffed by experienced personnel.

Medical Questionnaire and Morning Check

To ensure prompt medical assistance, you must complete the medical questionnaire located on the back of your race number before the start. This is not a formality – if something unexpected happens on the course, this information could be critically important to medical staff, the organisers noted. The organisers also encourage participants to take the “Morning Test” on the morning of the race, which is available in the “Participant Guide“. If a participant cannot answer any of the test questions affirmatively, participation in the race is not recommended.

“Running is a celebration, and we want the marathon’s positive atmosphere to stay with us even after the race. Enjoy the city and the atmosphere, but please be smart – if you feel something unusual, don’t play the hero, and stop. The ability to drop out at a critical moment is not a sign of weakness; it is a sign of maturity,” emphasised Aigars Nords, head of the Rimi Rīga Marathon organising team. “Better a slower finish or dropping out than health problems. The Rīga Marathon will be held again next year, but we all have only one health.”

Do not ignore your body’s signals

Organizers and medical professionals remind participants that they must immediately stop running if certain sensations are out of the ordinary.

Special attention should be paid to the following signs:

pain, pressure, or a feeling of heaviness in the chest
irregular heartbeat or pronounced palpitations
dizziness, weakness, or “dark spots” before the eyes
sudden and severe shortness of breath or nausea
sudden cessation of sweating (especially in hot weather) or numbness in the limbs.

If a participant notices that a fellow runner is becoming ill, stumbling, becoming disoriented, or falling, do not run past them. Call 113, give the code word “Marathon,” provide the victim’s bib number, and indicate their location on the course as precisely as possible.

If you don’t have a phone, shout for help and get the attention of a volunteer or the “Medical Help” team.

                    Seen a mistake?

Select text and press Ctrl+Enter to send a suggested correction to the editor

Select text and press Report a mistake to send a suggested correction to the editor

                    Tell us about a mistake

This weekend, on Saturday and Sunday, Rīga will host the largest running event in the Baltics, bringing together…

[91
169,168
0":"post-82480","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-riga","8":"tag-latvia","9":"tag-riga
["GET
