CROMWELL – Town firefighters evacuated a hotel on Berlin Road Wednesday due to a fire in the laundry room, an official says.<\/p>\n
Cromwell Fire Chief Jason Brade said firefighters responded to a 911 call at 11:45 a.m. for an issue in the basement of the hotel that eventually led to a fire at\u00a0the Quality Inn on Berlin Road.<\/p>\n
Brade said crews arrived to find people evacuating and smoke coming out of the roof of the hotel. He said firefighters located a fire in the laundry room in\u00a0the hotel’s basement, adding it was successfully knocked down and contained there.<\/p>\n
“Due to the intensity of the fire, elevated levels of smoke and carbon monoxide extended throughout multiple portions of the building,” he said.<\/p>\n
Brade said firefighters conducted a systematic search of the hotel, going door-to-door to ensure occupants had safely evacuated. He said no civilian or firefighter injuries have been reported.<\/p>\n
“Crews remained on scene ventilating the building and monitoring conditions to remove smoke and carbon monoxide from the structure,” he said.<\/p>\n
Brade said multiple area fire departments, including\u00a0Westfield and\u00a0Middletown fire departments, assisted with fire suppression and ventilation operations. He said the Cromwell Fire Marshal’s office, the Building Department and the Health Department were all called to the scene.<\/p>\n
No one was displaced as a result of this fire, Brade said, adding its cause is under investigation.<\/p>\n
