There are countless ways to watch the upcoming total solar eclipse\u2014Robb Report has curated a journey in Spain<\/a> based around the astronomical phenomenon, in fact\u2014but witnessing it from a luxury expedition ship in the remote waters of the Arctic is pinch-yourself stuff.<\/p>\n

Luxury expedition yacht Aqua Lares<\/a> will cruise along the path of totality, deep into East Greenland to the Scoresby Sund. Come August 12, guests will watch the celestial blackout in peace on the ocean, surrounded only by icebergs and fjords. The Scoresby Sund, the world\u2019s largest and longest fjord system, ranks as one of the best locations to watch the eclipse, offering over 1 minute and 45 seconds of totality with next to no light pollution.<\/p>\n

Throughout the expedition, guests will be accompanied by Dr. Kathy Sullivan, a NASA astronaut, geologist, oceanographer, and U.S. Navy officer, who will share her insights on all beyond the stratosphere. Sullivan has been to space three times, logging more than 532 hours there. She has also made history not once but twice, becoming the first American woman to complete a spacewalk in 1984 and the first woman to reach the lowest known point in the ocean in 2020. Photographer David Wright, whose work has been featured by National Geographic, will also be on board to capture keepsake images for guests.<\/p>\n

Aqua Lares, originally known as Giant I, was built as an icebreaking tug in 1974 by the Dutch shipyard IHC Verschure. It was converted into the world\u2019s first Class 1 icebreaker superyacht in 2003, then refitted for luxury travel in 2016 and rechristened Legend. Reintroduced as Aqua Lares in late 2025, the 254-footer is comfortable in the harshest of environments, with a sturdy ice-class hull that can power through practically anything. It can carry everything from submersibles and helicopters to snowmobiles and jet skis, allowing for far-flung exploration.<\/p>\n
