BATON ROUGE, La. (NEWS 15) \u2014 Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry made a surprise visit to Greenland on Monday as President Donald Trump’s special envoy, but media reports indicated he did not receive a warm welcome from locals.<\/p>\n
Landry stated he traveled to Greenland to build relationships on behalf of the Trump administration.<\/p>\n
However, media outlets in Greenland reported that locals greeted him with chants of “go home.”<\/p>\n
On President Trump’s behalf, Landry is pushing for U.S. access to the island’s minerals and seeking the right to station American troops there indefinitely.<\/p>\n
Greenland’s leader met with Landry on Monday for what he described as a “constructive” meeting.<\/p>\n
Despite the discussion, Greenland officials indicated that Trump’s objectives remain unchanged.<\/p>\n
The visit comes as the Trump administration seeks to expand U.S. strategic interests in the Arctic region.<\/p>\n
