Russian lawmaker Andrey Kartapolov says the West may consider involving Latvia in the Ukraine conflict as Kiev\u2019s resources weaken.<\/p>\n
Western countries may be\u00a0weighing Latvia\u2019s\u00a0involvement in\u00a0the Ukraine conflict as\u00a0one possible scenario amid the depletion of\u00a0Ukraine\u2019s\u00a0resources, State Duma Defense Committee chairman Andrey Kartapolov told RIA Novosti.<\/p>\n
According to\u00a0Kartapolov, the West needs new parties to\u00a0the conflict because Ukraine is\u00a0running out of\u00a0capacity. In\u00a0that context, he\u00a0said, Latvia may have been chosen as\u00a0a\u00a0potential participant.<\/p>\n
He\u00a0also warned that if\u00a0Riga takes such a\u00a0step, it\u00a0would effectively act as\u00a0an\u00a0aggressor against Russia.<\/p>\n
Earlier, Russia\u2019s\u00a0Foreign Intelligence Service said the Ukrainian armed forces were preparing a\u00a0new series of\u00a0terrorist strikes against rear regions of\u00a0Russia. According to\u00a0the SVR, Kiev plans to\u00a0launch drones from the territory of\u00a0the Baltic states in\u00a0order to\u00a0shorten their flight time to\u00a0targets.<\/p>\n
The agency\u2019s\u00a0press bureau said Latvia fears a\u00a0possible response from Moscow, but Ukrainian authorities had persuaded Riga by\u00a0claiming that the exact launch site of\u00a0the drones would allegedly be\u00a0impossible to\u00a0determine.<\/p>\n
The SVR also warned that Russia knows the coordinates of decision-making centers in Latvia, and that the country\u2019s NATO membership would not shield accomplices of\u00a0terrorists from retaliation.<\/p>\n
