{"id":89949,"date":"2026-05-22T18:58:13","date_gmt":"2026-05-22T18:58:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/89949\/"},"modified":"2026-05-22T18:58:13","modified_gmt":"2026-05-22T18:58:13","slug":"unity-cup-aik-block-yohanna-as-super-eagles-fly-to-london","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/dk\/89949\/","title":{"rendered":"Unity Cup: AIK block Yohanna as Super Eagles Fly to London"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Super Eagles head coach \u00c9ric Chelle has led local players and backroom staff to London ahead of the Unity Cup (May 26-30), but Swedish club <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aikfotboll.se\/welcome-to-aik-fotboll\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">AIK<\/a> have dealt Nigeria a blow by refusing to release striker Zadok Yohanna for the tournament.<\/p>\n<p>AIK confirmed that Yohanna, currently in rehabilitation, is unavailable for sporting and medical reasons \u2014 the same reasons he missed AIK\u2019s recent Allsvenskan away fixture against V\u00e4ster\u00e5s SK, which ended 1-1.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAIK Football is happy and proud that Zadok Yohanna has been selected for the Nigerian national team for the Unity Cup,\u201d the club said. \u201cThe decision not to let him travel to London is based partly on the fact that he is in rehabilitation, but also on sporting reasons, as Zadok is an important player for AIK Football Club.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Had Yohanna made the trip, he would have missed AIK\u2019s Allsvenskan fixture against IK Sirius on May 30 \u2014 a match the Stockholm club were unwilling to sacrifice him for. <\/p>\n<p>Despite the setback, the Eagles\u2019 delegation \u2014 which includes seven home-based players \u2014 departed from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, and will be joined in London by 20 foreign-based professionals.<\/p>\n<p>Nigeria face Zimbabwe\u2019s Warriors in their semi-final clash at The Valley, home ground of Sky Bet Championship side Charlton Athletic, on Tuesday.
