It also comes with a special-edition livery designed jointly by both teams, inspired by BMW M Motorsport and applied not only to the Lego kit, but also to a real BMW M3 E30 show car. Tiny bricks, proper heritage flex.

Small car, big nostalgia

The E30-generation M3 has long since passed into enthusiast folklore, helped by its racing roots, box-arched stance and touring car history.

Advertise with NZME.

Lego’s version leans into those details, recreating the BMW kidney grille, rear spoiler and the four round headlights that helped define the first-generation M3’s face.

The finished model measures 17cm long and 7cm wide, and includes functional wheels plus a driver minifigure wearing a BMW M T-shirt. That last detail is not just for the little plastic driver, either.

Matching the minifigure

BMW will sell a scaled-up version of the minifigure’s T-shirt from 1 August 2026 through BMW dealers and its lifestyle website. The shirt is made from organic cotton and features prints on the front and back.

The Lego Speed Champions line has built its following by turning recognisable performance cars into accessible collectibles, and the M3 E30 fits the brief neatly. It is a car old enough to be historic, but still familiar enough to make adults suddenly remember they have “always liked Lego”.

Pre-orders open now

The Lego Speed Champions BMW M3 E30 is available for pre-order now through Lego.com, ahead of its release on 1 August 2026.
