BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 17. In the coming years,
\nat least seven new companies\u2014ranging from cargo terminals and
\nlogistics centers to energy enterprises and smart
\nmanufacturing\u2014will begin operations in Riga\u2019s Kundzi\u0146sala, one of
\nthe fastest-growing areas of the Freeport of Riga, Trend<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n

The expansion is expected to create close to 800 new jobs and
\nattract a minimum of 500 million euros in investment, laying the
\nfoundation for a future-proof business ecosystem focused on
\nsustainable energy, modern industry, and intelligent logistics.<\/p>\n

One of the region\u2019s cornerstone developments is the first
\nrenewable fuel production facility in the Baltics. Operated by
\nAmber Flow Fuels, this 120 million euros investment will produce
\nhydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) and sustainable aviation fuel
\n(SAF).<\/p>\n

With 120 high-skilled jobs expected, the plant aims to begin
\nproduction in 2027, contributing to Latvia\u2019s green transition goals
\nand climate neutrality.<\/p>\n

Kundzi\u0146sala is also emerging as a key site for wind energy
\ntechnology manufacturing. With support from the European Regional
\nDevelopment Fund and the Latvian government, an industrial zone for
\noffshore and onshore wind technology will be developed in the
\nnorthern part of Kundzi\u0146sala by 2029.<\/p>\n

“Kundzi\u0146sala is not just a place on the map\u2014it represents
\nLatvia\u2019s ambition to become a smart industry crossroads in Europe.
\nThis project shows that the state, local government, and businesses
\ncan jointly create a sustainable and internationally competitive
\nenvironment,” said Minister for Economics Viktors Valaini.<\/p>\n

Among other expected benefits are 160 million euros in exports,
\n650 new jobs in the wind technology sector, and at least 7.8
\nmillion euros in annual tax contributions.<\/p>\n

In addition to its green energy transformation, the Freeport of
\nRiga continues to serve as a strategic logistics partner, enhancing
\ntransport connectivity through multimodal infrastructure
\nupgrades.<\/p>\n

A new overpass connecting Sarkandaugava to Kundzi\u0146sala is under
\nconstruction and will open in 2026. It will improve direct access
\nto Riga\u2019s arterial road network, reduce freight traffic in the city
\ncenter, and enhance overall urban mobility.<\/p>\n

A state-of-the-art access control terminal is also underway in
\nKundzi\u0146sala, featuring automated lanes, digital cargo data
\nexchange, vehicle recognition technology, and seamless integration
\nwith customs systems\u2014making it one of Europe\u2019s most modern port
\nentry points.<\/p>\n

Already handling 72 percent of all seaborne container cargo in
\nLatvia, Kundzi\u0146sala is home to some of the port\u2019s most advanced
\ncontainer and bulk terminals. Several companies are currently
\nexpanding their warehouses and cargo yards to meet growing
\ndemand.<\/p>\n

\u201cPorts have always been a strategic asset for any country, and
\nKundzi\u0146sala is a textbook example of how we can use them wisely\u2014for
\neconomic security, energy independence, and as a platform for
\ncritical industries of the future,” noted Ansis Zelti\u0146\u0161, CEO of the
\nFreeport of Riga.<\/p>\n

Government ministers, city officials, business leaders, and
\nmedia representatives visited Kundzi\u0146sala this week to explore the
\ndevelopment vision and tour existing and upcoming projects that are
\nreshaping the area into the new centerpiece of Riga\u2019s industrial
