In the coming years,<br \/>\nat least seven new companies\u2014ranging from cargo terminals and<br \/>\nlogistics centers to energy enterprises and smart<br \/>\nmanufacturing\u2014will begin operations in Riga\u2019s Kundzi\u0146sala, one of<br \/>\nthe fastest-growing areas of the Freeport of Riga, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.trend.az\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Trend<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n<p>The expansion is expected to create close to 800 new jobs and<br \/>\nattract a minimum of 500 million euros in investment, laying the<br \/>\nfoundation for a future-proof business ecosystem focused on<br \/>\nsustainable energy, modern industry, and intelligent logistics.<\/p>\n<p>One of the region\u2019s cornerstone developments is the first<br \/>\nrenewable fuel production facility in the Baltics. Operated by<br \/>\nAmber Flow Fuels, this 120 million euros investment will produce<br \/>\nhydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) and sustainable aviation fuel<br \/>\n(SAF).<\/p>\n<p>With 120 high-skilled jobs expected, the plant aims to begin<br \/>\nproduction in 2027, contributing to Latvia\u2019s green transition goals<br \/>\nand climate neutrality.<\/p>\n<p>Kundzi\u0146sala is also emerging as a key site for wind energy<br \/>\ntechnology manufacturing. With support from the European Regional<br \/>\nDevelopment Fund and the Latvian government, an industrial zone for<br \/>\noffshore and onshore wind technology will be developed in the<br \/>\nnorthern part of Kundzi\u0146sala by 2029.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Kundzi\u0146sala is not just a place on the map\u2014it represents<br \/>\nLatvia\u2019s ambition to become a smart industry crossroads in Europe.<br \/>\nThis project shows that the state, local government, and businesses<br \/>\ncan jointly create a sustainable and internationally competitive<br \/>\nenvironment,&#8221; said Minister for Economics Viktors Valaini.<\/p>\n<p>Among other expected benefits are 160 million euros in exports,<br \/>\n650 new jobs in the wind technology sector, and at least 7.8<br \/>\nmillion euros in annual tax contributions.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to its green energy transformation, the Freeport of<br \/>\nRiga continues to serve as a strategic logistics partner, enhancing<br \/>\ntransport connectivity through multimodal infrastructure<br \/>\nupgrades.<\/p>\n<p>A new overpass connecting Sarkandaugava to Kundzi\u0146sala is under<br \/>\nconstruction and will open in 2026. It will improve direct access<br \/>\nto Riga\u2019s arterial road network, reduce freight traffic in the city<br \/>\ncenter, and enhance overall urban mobility.<\/p>\n<p>A state-of-the-art access control terminal is also underway in<br \/>\nKundzi\u0146sala, featuring automated lanes, digital cargo data<br \/>\nexchange, vehicle recognition technology, and seamless integration<br \/>\nwith customs systems\u2014making it one of Europe\u2019s most modern port<br \/>\nentry points.<\/p>\n<p>Already handling 72 percent of all seaborne container cargo in<br \/>\nLatvia, Kundzi\u0146sala is home to some of the port\u2019s most advanced<br \/>\ncontainer and bulk terminals. Several companies are currently<br \/>\nexpanding their warehouses and cargo yards to meet growing<br \/>\ndemand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPorts have always been a strategic asset for any country, and<br \/>\nKundzi\u0146sala is a textbook example of how we can use them wisely\u2014for<br \/>\neconomic security, energy independence, and as a platform for<br \/>\ncritical industries of the future,&#8221; noted Ansis Zelti\u0146\u0161, CEO of the<br \/>\nFreeport of Riga.<\/p>\n<p>Government ministers, city officials, business leaders, and<br \/>\nmedia representatives visited Kundzi\u0146sala this week to explore the<br \/>\ndevelopment vision and tour existing and upcoming projects that are<br \/>\nreshaping the area into the new centerpiece of Riga\u2019s industrial<br \/>\nfuture.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 17.
