cancelling<\/a> its short summer day trips to Guernsey in July and August, although, only a handful were scheduled.<\/p>\nThe Danish ferry firm said that instead it would use the slots for extra rotations between Jersey and St Malo.<\/p>\n
The move has been met with surprise by the president of Guernsey’s Committee for Economic Development, Deputy Sasha Kazantseva-Miller, who says Jersey’s operator had not been granted a licence to sail into St Peter Port:<\/p>\n
“Our legislation\u00a0for the operation of Ro-Ro vessels requires that a licence is required for DFDS to operate.<\/p>\n
“So\u00a0to put a schedule in place that hasn’t received a licence approval\u00a0is really unprofessional.<\/p>\n
“These sailings have not been authorised in the first place.”<\/p>\n
At this stage both sides are playing down the fall out, which follows Guernsey rejecting DFDS’ proposals to run a Friday\/Monday rotation from Jersey to Guernsey in 2026.\u00a0<\/p>\n
DFDS says it “would welcome further engagement involving both island governments, ports and other relevant officials.”\u00a0<\/p>\n
Deputy Sasha Kazantseva-Miller\u00a0says Guernsey is still happy to talk about the inter island service:<\/p>\n
“It’s our job to be open and to ensure that the government delivers on better sea and air\u00a0connectivity, and it’s one of the committee’s key priorities.”<\/p>\n
