The initiative was carried out with the local education community and Traugutt.org, an association based in Poland.

The books are intended for schools in Vilnius District where teaching is conducted in Polish. Vilnius District is the municipality surrounding Lithuania’s capital, Vilnius, and includes several communities with Polish-language education.

According to Vilnius District Municipality, the collected books will reach 14 schools. The donation includes more than 320 titles, with an estimated total value of about 100,000 Polish zlotys.

Municipal officials said the books were collected according to needs identified by the schools themselves. This means the libraries will receive fiction titles considered useful for pupils and teachers, rather than a random selection of donated books.

The organisers said the Literature Wave campaign grew into a wider initiative across Poland. Organisations, schools, libraries and local communities joined the effort, while local collection points were set up in libraries, schools and cultural institutions.

A meeting marking the conclusion of the campaign was held on May 29 at Vilnius District Municipality. Participants reviewed the results and discussed further educational and cultural initiatives in the district.

Those attending included municipal administration director Vytautas Vansavičius, mayoral adviser Vida Montvydaitė, Education Department head Jaroslav Suboč, senior specialist Renata Cytacka, representatives of educational institutions, and Traugutt.org representatives, including chair Jacek Świs and deputy chair Marta Gruszkowska.

Municipal representatives said such initiatives help improve education quality and strengthen school libraries. They also noted that, although funding for educational institutions is being increased, additional support from projects and organisations remains important.

Renata Cytacka, who initiated the book collection campaign, said pupil basket funding does not always cover all necessary educational materials. These funds are used for textbooks, fiction and children’s literature, teaching materials for educators and other learning resources. She noted that translation costs for Polish-language textbooks can be high, making additional support for school libraries especially valuable.

                                Context & actions
About this article

                                Report
Share

                    Source check
Šaltinio patikra

Tekstas parengtas pagal Vilniaus rajono savivaldybės paskelbtus akcijos rezultatus ir nurodytus dalyvius.

Checks

Sutikrintas surinktų knygų skaičius: 2,5 tūkst.
Patikrinta nurodyta paramos vertė: apie 100 tūkst. zlotų.
Sutikrinta, kad leidiniai skirti 14 Vilniaus rajono mokyklų.
Vardai ir pareigos naudoti pagal šaltinyje pateiktą informaciją.

SourceVilniaus rajono savivaldybė

ScopeVilniaus rajono savivaldybė

Updated2026-05-29 21:36

        Report

Article contextPeople & topics3#6Vytautas VansavičiusVida MontvydaitėJaroslav Suboč

Vilnius District school libraries in Lithuania are set to receive 2,500 Polish-language fiction books collected through the Literature…

[93
49573,49571,171,49570,49572,49574,170,49575
post-95168","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-vilnius","tag-education-community","tag-literature-wave","tag-lithuania","tag-polish-language","tag-school-libraries","tag-traugutt-org","tag-vilnius","tag-vilnius-district-schools
["GET
