Throughout the evening, drivers from all over the country compete for a cash prize and bragging rights. No tree, no track, no walls, no closed course. Just raw horsepower, guts, and open Swedish highways with police not far behind.

Why highways? Because out there, they provide the straightest stretch of asphalt, creating the perfect stage for a battle of the builds.

This event is cash days, heads-up, 1/8 mile, bracket-style showdowns. The only two rules? Don’t jump and don’t cross. Everything else is fair game. Turbos, nitrous, all engines, all tires. If it rolls, it’s running. You will see everything from clown shoe BMWs to leaf-spring Barracudas, all chasing the same thing: victory.

Competitors can trailer in for the first round only. From there on out, it is up to them and their machine to make it to the next rendezvous. There’s one catch: each round is on a timer. You break and can’t fix it in time? You’re out. Miss your call? You’re out.

Crowds come out of the woodwork to spectate this world-renowned event, turning Sweden highways into high-octane coliseums. The local law enforcement agents are stuck spectating, too, as a metal barrier separates them from the evening’s festivities.

The semifinals arrived as a Supra and an E30 went head-to-head for a spot in the finals. The 5.3L twin-turbo, 1300-horsepower E30 proved to be a force to be reckoned with and advanced to the finals. Next up was the battle between the “clown shoe” BMW and the Barracuda. In the end, the clown shoe BMW proved to be the dominant competitor and secured its spot in the finals.

The finals arrived just as the sun began to peak over the dawn horizon, to see who would earn bragging rights for the baddest streetcar in Sweden. As the pair of BMWs lined up, the crowd gathered around to watch the final event of the evening. After an intense night of racing, the E30 secured the crown and took home the title and the driver’s first-ever Stockholm Open win.

This isn’t your average race.
