Kui tavaliselt v\u00f5ib see ulatuda kuni 100 000 aastani, siis uue meetodi abil loodetakse see v\u00e4hendada umbes 300 aastani.<\/p>\n<p>Projekti veab USA energiaministeerium koost\u00f6\u00f6s Thomas Jeffersoni riikliku laboriga. Algatuse nimega NEWTON eesm\u00e4rk on kasutada osakeste kiirendeid, et muuta ohtlikud radioaktiivsed isotoobid v\u00e4hem ohtlikeks aineteks.<\/p>\n<p>Meetod p\u00f5hineb neutronite suunamisel tuumaj\u00e4\u00e4tmetesse, mis lahjendab nende radioaktiivsust ja l\u00fchendab oluliselt ohtlikku perioodi.
