Situada en la ladera del puerto oeste, la escuela primaria Taiping es testigo de los altibajos de la ciudad de Keelung. Fundada en la d\u00e9cada de 1960 para atender a los hijos de los trabajadores del muelle occidental, la escuela vivi\u00f3 su per\u00edodo de mayor vitalidad en ese contexto portuario. Todas las nuevas intervenciones se construyeron en madera: una escalera en voladizo que invita a subir; un peque\u00f1o pabell\u00f3n en la azotea, desde donde se puede contemplar el puerto y escuchar las sirenas de los transbordadores que llegan; y, en el extremo del terreno, una pasarela a\u00e9rea de 18 metros que se proyecta hasta encontrar el sendero que hay m\u00e1s all\u00e1 de la colina. El edificio escolar original presentaba un ritmo estructural claro, con dos escaleras que lo divid\u00edan en tres partes: frente, medio y fondo. En la secci\u00f3n frontal, cerca de la entrada, implantamos una vibrante librer\u00eda, en referencia al antiguo papel de la escuela como espacio de aprendizaje. Los antiguos escritorios y sillas de la escuela se han conservado para que los visitantes puedan leer o descansar, estableciendo una nueva y po\u00e9tica relaci\u00f3n con el flujo de personas que atraviesan el lugar. La secci\u00f3n posterior mantiene la intervenci\u00f3n leve realizada por el gobierno municipal algunos a\u00f1os antes. En la parte central, optamos deliberadamente por reducir el edificio a un estado ruinoso, retirando losas, puertas y ventanas de aluminio, algunas particiones internas e incluso los estrados elevados de las salas de la planta baja.
