The Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan is forming a joint venture with M&G Investments to support the scaling of a multi-billion European collateralized loan obligation platform.
The investment organization is providing investment capacity of up to €200 million for equity investments in future M&G Margay CLO issuances. It will also participate in the long-term economics of M&G’s European CLO business.
“We believe the European CLO equity market is an attractive asset class that complements and diversifies our existing CLO equity program and are pleased to expand our relationship with M&G,” said Michael Merkoulovitch, senior managing director of credit at the Ontario Teachers’, in a statement.
The Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec is acquiring U.K.-based specialty insurance firm Optio Group, alongside private equity firm Cinven.
The financial details of the transaction weren’t disclosed. The investment reflects a longstanding global focus on insurance and insurance-related platforms for the Caisse and is backed by experience in this sector globally, according to a press release.
“Specialty insurance is a market where technical underwriting expertise, disciplined risk selection and scale increasingly matter,” said Martin Longchamps, executive vice-president and head of private equity and private credit at the Caisse, in the release. “Optio is well positioned in that environment, with a differentiated platform serving complex insurance markets, a strong European base and clear international growth potential.”
