The Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 was watched by over 300,000 viewers, as Romania placed 3rd in Vienna.

The final of the 70th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 was watched by an average audience of 339,000 viewers, with a share of 11% of viewers. This is the largest audience for the Eurovision Song Contest in Romania since they last competed in a final in 2022, and is the third largest audience in the country over the past decade. The final topped the ratings during its time slot in urban areas.

The audience for the final peak at 23:17 local time with an audience of over 450,000 viewers. On TVR’s streaming platforms, 35,441 people watched on the TVR 1 stream with a further 5,128 following the sign language interpretation of the show.

Alexandra Căpitănescu came third for Romania at the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 with “Choke Me”, scoring 296 points. This is Romania’s best result ever in the Eurovision Song Contest, receiving its highest points total to date, and placing 3rd in the contest for a third time. Romania received 12 points from the Luxembourgish jury and the Moldovan televote.

Romania in the Eurovision Song Contest+

Romania first participated in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994. The country tried to participate in 1993 but failed to get through the pre-qualifying round. At the 1994 contest, Dan Bittman finished 21st in the final scoring 14 points, Romania didn’t make it through to another final until 1998. Romania’s best results in the contest are three third-place finishes. In 2005, Luminita Anghel & Sistem finished 3rd scoring 158 points, while Paula Seling & Ovi finished 3rd in 2010 with the song “Playing with Fire” and in 2026 with Alexandra Căpitănescu and “Choke Me”.
