LevelTen\u00a0Energy has reported contrasting solar PPA price trends for Q2 2026, with prices falling in\u00a0North America\u00a0for the first time in two years while rising in Europe for the first time in a year. The reports also point to changing buyer activity and growing demand for battery-backed renewable energy contracts.\u00a0<\/p>\n
In its Q2 2026 North American PPA Price Index Report, LevelTen Energy says that the US solar PPA prices declined in Q2 2026 for the first time in two years, with the market average falling 4.8% from the previous quarter to $61.40\/MWh. Excluding the sharp decline in the CAISO market, which represented a small share of total offers, the drop was 1.8%.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Analysts spotted lower prices across most markets, driven\u00a0mainly\u00a0by\u00a0weaker buyer demand, although reduced solar project costs may also have contributed. Large technology companies continued to\u00a0procure\u00a0renewable energy at scale, while many commercial and industrial\u00a0(C&I)\u00a0buyers remained cautious due to uncertainty over Greenhouse Gas Protocol\u00a0(GHGP)\u00a0revisions and\u00a0relatively high\u00a0PPA prices.\u00a0Additionally, the report expects developers\u00a0to have\u00a0lowered prices to remain competitive.\u00a0<\/p>\n
According to the report, technology companies continue to drive renewable energy procurement, while many other corporate buyers\u00a0remain\u00a0on the sidelines.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Compared to solar,\u00a0wind PPA prices increased 5.5% quarter-on-quarter\u00a0(QoQ)\u00a0and 17.5% year-over-year\u00a0(YoY)\u00a0as the sector faced higher tariffs\u00a0and\u00a0rising transportation and gas costs. Delays in\u00a0federal permitting have\u00a0also\u00a0limited\u00a0the development of new wind projects.\u00a0<\/p>\n
It also notes that the July 4,\u00a02026\u00a0deadline for qualifying US renewable energy projects for tax credits has passed, meaning few\u00a0additional\u00a0projects will be eligible. Projects that\u00a0qualified\u00a0must\u00a0remain\u00a0operational by the end of 2030 to receive the\u00a0credits. The report expects the shrinking pipeline of tax-credit-eligible projects\u00a0will\u00a0likely contribute\u00a0to\u00a0increasing\u00a0PPA prices unless\u00a0there is a \u2018substantial policy turnaround\u2019 in the coming years.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
