As the autonomous software makes its way into more European Union countries, new safety metrics show a major drop in collisions compared to human drivers.

In a recent post on X, @teslaeurope shared the latest figures, noting, “In the last 4 months, FSD Supervised has been over 5.2x safer than manual driving – across 65 million kilometers in 5 EU countries.”

This comes after Tesla shared FSD safety data from the Netherlands last month. While that initial report covered 16.6 million FSD kilometers in the first country to approve the software, this update scales up to a much larger sample size of 65 million kilometers across five active EU markets: the Netherlands, Lithuania, Estonia, Denmark, and Belgium.

                                                                                                        Not a Tesla App

Breaking Down Tesla’s European Safety Numbers

The shared data shows clear safety improvements over manual driving across several key metrics. On highways, FSD (Supervised) logged 41.9 million kilometers (about 26 million miles) with zero notable collisions, making it 8.5 times safer than manual driving with active safety features enabled. On non-highway roads, it recorded 6 collisions over 23.8 million kilometers (approximately 14.8 million miles), making it 2.8 times safer than human drivers.

Overall, European vehicles operating on FSD experienced:

These European metrics mirror similar safety trends seen in North America. U.S. data shows Teslas running FSD average 5.5 million miles (8.8 million kilometers) driven between major collisions compared to 2.2 million miles (3.5 million kilometers) for manual driving with active safety features, and 1.6 million miles (2.6 million kilometers) before minor collisions compared to 717,000 miles (1.2 million kilometers) manually.

                                                                                                        Not a Tesla App

                                        Software Customization and HW3 Availability

To meet regional regulations, Tesla releases localized point builds of the primary v14 branch in European countries as approvals land. These builds feature specific UI elements and changes tailored exclusively to European road laws and traffic.

Hardware availability remains limited for now. FSD (Supervised) is restricted to Hardware 4 (HW4/AI4) vehicles in the five European nations it is currently approved to operate in. While a public rollout of FSD v14 Lite began for older HW3 vehicles in the U.S. earlier this month and an international expansion for legacy vehicles has been confirmed, there’s no word yet on a European release date.

Expanding across the EU is also helping drive FSD adoption as more of the global fleet gains access to the software. Tesla revealed in its Q2 earnings report last week that global FSD subscriptions have crossed 1.48 million.

While Tesla demonstrates FSD safety on public roads and pushes for bloc-wide approval ahead of a European Commission vote slated for October, some nations remain hesitant. France recently rejected FSD over safety concerns, alongside pushback from Sweden. Meanwhile in the U.S., Tesla has confirmed that early builds of FSD v15 are already running on Robotaxi vehicles as development continues.

Tesla is backing up its European Full Self-Driving (Supervised) expansion with some impressive real-world driving data.
