The initiative is backed by up to \u20ac10 billion in EU and national funding and is expected to unlock at least \u20ac20 billion in private investment across the bloc.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Gigafactories will combine advanced AI processors, software, cloud infrastructure, high-speed connectivity, and energy-efficient data centers, giving startups, enterprises, academia, and public authorities access to infrastructure for training and fine-tuning frontier AI models under EU data protection and safety standards. They will operate alongside Europe\u2019s existing network of 19 AI Factories.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eighteen member states, including Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and Poland, have signed a joint procurement agreement with the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking to support the projects across two funding lots, offering between \u20ac100 million and \u20ac800 million per project depending on scale and phase. Consortia can procure hardware from European or allied suppliers, with the European Commission signing letters of intent with AMD, Nvidia, and Qualcomm to ensure hardware access following the EU-US trade deal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The call for proposals closes November 12, 2026, with award decisions expected by early 2027 and construction to begin the same year.
